Wow!! First the conservative Republican great-granddaughter of Herbert Hoover and now this! The Advocate is reporting that Cindy McCain, wife of Senator John McCain, one of the most well-known families in the Republican party, has posed for the NOH8 campaign, showing her support for marriage equality. And looking damn good doing it. As in all the NOH8 ads, Cindy McCain is shown with duct tape over her mouth to symbolize the voices being left unheard on the subject of marriage equality. On the NOH8 the organization writes, “In the year since we’ve started the NOH8 Campaign, we’ve been surprised at some of the different individuals who have approached us showing their support. Few, though, have surprised us more than Cindy McCain—the wife of Senator John McCain and mother to vocal marriage equality advocate Meghan McCain. The McCains are one of the most well-known Republican families in recent history, and for Mrs. McCain to have reached out to us to offer her support truly means a lot. Although we had worked with Meghan McCain before and we were aware of her own position, we’d never really thought the cause might be something her mother could get behind.” This is amazing to me. These conservative Republicans, granted most are not running for office, but they are still able to see that marriage equality is a simple human rights issue and take it out of the realm of religion and all the other bullshit that is blinding people to the fact that everyone should be treated as equals under the constitution of this nation. Cindy is standing up for what's right PUBLICLY!! Will Obama do the same soon? We'll see. [source and image]
