MOVING 'THAT'S A GOOD BLOG' TO TUMBLR

After over six years and 3,362 posts I have decided to consolidate my online presence a little and move my blog posts to my TUMBLR account. I have been posting and re-posting for a while now and it seems easier to reach my followers through Tumblr, so that is the idea. I am keeping the blogger site up for archive purposes, so feel free to keep looking at all your old faves, bitches!!! I will still maintain my TWITTER as well to reach followers, so keep an eye out for me.  Blogger has been a lot of fun and a great learning tool, so no T no shade to Blogger, y'all, but daddy don't have time for all this posting and re-posting. So head on over to my TUMBLR and TWITTER to keep up with me or you will be punished. And not in a good way.

JUST A FEW HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST NIGHT'S 'REBEL HEART TOUR' IN NYC

I had AH-MAH-ZING seats for last night's Rebel Heart Tour at Madison Square Garden here in NYC (thanks to my brilliant Hubby) and had to take a few short videos (pics to come) of the show. Here are some of my favorite moments caught for you. The show was absolutely sensational and my fave Madge concert since The Confessions Tour. She really doesn't slow down, people!!!! She even sang some songs she hasn't done is ages like True Blue, Who's That Girl, Love Don't Live Here Anymore and Dress You Up. It was so exciting to be so close to the woman I have loved and idolized since I was a kid. Here is the amazing Madonna at MSG.

NEW KYLIE + GARIBAY EP: FIRST SINGLE, BLACK AND WHITE

Kylie Minogue has teamed up with producer Fernando Garibay before. The pair released an EP in 2014 titled Sleepwalker that had some enchanting songs. Today the duo has surprised fans with a new EP simply called Kylie + Garibay and dropped a video for the single Black and White featuring Shaggy. Yes, THAT Shaggy. The song is a lovely, languid dance track that keeps the Shaggy to a minimum, so don't worry. Ha. The full EP (available now on iTunes) is three songs and includes a duet with Sam Sparro and a track featuring Giorgio Moroder. The black and white (appropriate) video was shot by Kylie's friend Katerina Jebb and Kylie has this to say about it:
"There are certain things you will only do with or for your friends. When Katerina Jebb said she wanted to make a film of me like an old fashioned home movie in a tassel bikini, I knew we would produce something which speaks volumes of our friendship.  As best friends for over twenty five years, we have seen a lots of ups and downs.  This, however, was a moment to celebrate life and freedom and just let go.  No pressure, just love.  I admire her not only as an amazing individual, but her art and aesthetic is singular and beautiful."

HUMPDAY SEXY SONG: I'M A SLAVE 4 U - BRITNEY SPEARS

Oh, Britney! You saucy little bitch. Britney was sick of the teen-queen image back in 2001, so she did what any sensible pop starlet does....she slutted it up!! Not that Britney hadn't already shown some skin before, but her music, in general, was on the safe side. I'm a Slave 4 U, written and produced by Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams a.k.a. The Neptunes, was full-on sex kitten material and Britney cooed her way to one of her sexiest hits. The song is accompanied by the perfect video. Taking place in a sauna/dance club, Britney dances her ass off, gets licked by a male dancer and teases about every boy and girl in the place. It was a shift in her career and easily one of her best singles of ....... ever. Don't you miss this Britney? THOSE ABS! Anyway, watch the video below and be a slave to her. Hump away, m'friends. Hump away. FUN FACT: I'm A Slave 4 U was written for Janet Jackson and intended for her album All For You. Her loss, Brit's gain.

ANYONE SAYING MILEY'S NEW ALBUM IS UNLISTENABLE HASN'T LISTENED

I am reading all of the vitriol being thrown at Miley for her supposed bad hosting (I didn't watch) of the VMAs and (now debunked) befuddlement during Nicki Minaj's "take down" at said awards show, and I truly believe those are the same people judging Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Pets without listening to a single note of it. This album, released outside of her RCA contract on her own Smiley Miley label for $50,000, is an experimental psychedelic romp, sure, but it is also a solid pop album. The hype around it seems to imply it is weird -- or at least weirder than the average pop album, but if it is, it's not by much. The record has some silly segues between songs, but the songs themselves are solid. There are some really moving moments and some really spacey, wish-you-were-tripping moments on the album as well. Songs like 1 Sun, I Forgive Yiew, Space Boots and Bang Me Box are as fun and accessible as anything on the radio right now (though the last one is pretty naughty for radio play). Meanwhile Karen Don't Be Sad, The Floyd Song (Sunrise) and Something About Space Dude are tender, understated ballads that show an artist growing, writing and expressing herself with a mentor (Wayne Coyne of Flaming Lips) helping her find her way. This is a thoughtful, eccentric and powerful statement by a young woman in the music industry. I refuse to believe that the nasty comments have anything to do with the music but everything to do with the artist. Not to say that everyone can't have their own opinion (your wrong), but this is by NO MEANS unlistenable and in many ways more satisfying than her last effort, the grand-pop of Bangerz. Listen to the full album below and judge for yourself. Dooo It! is even more than it's opening lines. Give it a shot. (steps off soapbox)

TAYLOR SWIFT CHANNELS MERYL STREEP AND LORDE WITH 'WILDEST DREAMS'

Taylor Swift is unstoppable with her excellent 1989 album and Wildest Dreams, the album's fifth single, is sure to continue its chart domination. I always thought this song sounded like a Lorde song, which makes sense because Lorde and Taylor are besties, so influence is bound to happen. The video finds TayTay serving Meryl Streep realness from La Streep's movie Out of Africa and even has a little tribute to Cecil the lion. Sweet! Wildest Dreams appeared briefly before its official release on the Hot 100 when 1989 first came out, hitting #76. Expect a MUCH higher position next week. Watch below. By the way, as it states at the end of the video, "All of Taylor's proceeds form this video will be donated to wild animal conservation efforts through the African Parks Foundation of America."

MILEY CYRUS: NEW VIDEO AND FREE ALBUM

Miley is bringing it back to the masses (but probably NOT Nicki Minaj) with a very gooey new video for her latest single Dooo It! AND a free album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz. The song is a deep bass, hip-hop infused ode to smoking pot and wanting peace, among other things. It's a dark departure sonically and is a little whacky (thank to Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips), quite frankly. I kinda love it, but I don't know how much of a party jam it is. Ha. The NY Times ran an article all about the making of Miley's album, so read it here. In the meantime, watch Dooo It! below and stream Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz for absolutely FREE right HERE!

MADONNA FRIDAY: PAPA DON'T PREACH

In the very beginning Madonna was the ragamuffin girl with the bow in her hair, the piles of bright makeup and the torn tights. Much to the surprise of everyone in the music industry, Madonna did the very first of her MAJOR image changes when she popped up on screen with a pixie haircut and a very lean physique in the summer of 1986.  Papa Don't Preach was the first official single from her smash hit album True Blue (Live to Tell was out before the album as a track from the film At Close Range). The song caused controversy for it's "keeping my baby" stance and, for the first time, parents were praising Madonna for a pro-life message, while some women's organizations condemned Madonna for encouraging teen pregnancy. It's a story in a song! Madonna told the New York Times, "Papa Don't Preach is a message song that everyone is going to take the wrong way. Immediately they're going to say I am advising every young girl to go out and get pregnant. When I first heard the song, I thought it was silly. But then I thought, wait a minute, this song is really about a girl who is making a decision in her life. She has a very close relationship with her father and wants to maintain that closeness. To me it's a celebration of life. It says, 'I love you, father, and I love this man and this child that is growing inside me'. Of course, who knows how it will end? But at least it starts off positive." The song reached #1 on the Hot 100, becoming Madonna's fourth song to top the charts. The song, along with the music video, are among Madonna's most memorable and important. Truly a classic by any standards, here is Madonna's giant hit from the summer of 1986, Papa Don't Preach

THROWBACK THURSDAY: STING

Oh, Sting, ye of the tantric sex legend. Can you imagine, hours upon hours of sex with Sting? WAIT! Hold up. That is not what this is about. This is about the music. Sting (Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) was, of course, the lead singer of the pioneering new wave band The Police. The Police had a fairly short but hugely successful career, spanning five albums and several classic singles. After the band disbanded, Sting took his sexy ass solo in 1985 with his debut solo album The Dream of the Blue Turtles (#3 UK, #2 US) and hit the top 10 with If You Love Somebody Set Them Free and Fortress Around Your Heart. That was just the start as Sting's solo career soon overtook any success The Police had on the pop charts. Subsequent albums like Nothing Like The Sun, The Soul Cages, Ten Summoner's Tales, Mercury Falling and Brand New Day kept him on the charts all over the world. His ageless sexiness certainly didn't hurt either. Hits like We'll Be Together, All This Time, If I Ever Lose My Faith In You, Fields of Gold and Desert Rose have kept Sting in our hearts and ear-holes since the late 70s and he is still touring and a force to be reckoned with to this day. Here are some of the sexy Police-man's greatest hits and videos to warm you up today. Enjoy.

HUMPDAY SEXY SONG: DIRRTY - CHRISTINA AGUILERA

When Christina Aguilera released Dirrty (that's with two Rs, thank you) in 2002 everybody went ape-shit crazy. What happened to that little Disney princess with the angel voice? Well, I'll tell you: She grew up, got her some gays and they whored her up real nice. WOOT!! The all new, all slutty, all the TIME "Xtina" (as she would come to be called) was ready to shed that good girl image and show us how she can shake her man-hungry poontrap. Oh, Xtina, you never looked back. The video was especially shocking. Directed by the amazing David LaChapelle, it included a cast of wacky characters, sexy dancers, a lot of not-very-sanitary-looking water and a half naked Xtina bumping and grinding her way to infamy. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!! It is one of the, if not THE most shocking transformations I have witnessed in modern day pop music. You gotta give the girl some credit; she's got balls. The song is about as sexy as you can get and, whether you like it or not, sex became a part of Xtina's career for good. So here is the demure then-21-year-old Christina Aguilera's 2002 hit Dirrty. Enjoy and hump the nearest thing you can find.

THE #1 SONG 50 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS....

....I Got You Babe by Sonny & Cher!! Cher, the legendary goddess of entertainment, has been making hits since your parents were kids and is still kicking ass. I Got You Babe was the debut single from the debut album by Sonny & Cher and it hit #1 on August 14, 1965 and stayed for three hippie-loving, tree-hugging weeks. It is LEGENDARY, y'all!! It's considered one of the greatest duets in pop music history and certainly started Cher's road to superstardom. It's hard to believe that Cher could have had a hit 50 years ago, but there you have it. Here is the #1 song from 50 FUCKING YEARS AGO today, I Got You Babe. Enjoy!

MADONNA FRIDAY: JUMP

First of all, I must preface this by saying this is my fave Madonna song of all time.... and that is not easy for me to pick, girl! Jump was the fourth and final single released from Madge's Confessions on a Dance Floor album on October 31, 2006. Time flies. Written by Stuart Price and Joe Henry (who is Madonna's brother-in-law, by the way), the song is about empowerment and, in line with the rest of the album, has an amazing upbeat, clubby vibe to it. Jump was often compared to Madonna's big, danceable 80s hits. It became her 37th No. 1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart and her 7th No. 1 on the Hot 100 Singles Sales Chart (the one that REALLY matters), #1 on the Hot Dance Airplay chart and was also a highlight of the Confessions tour with the dancers jumping off platforms and swinging through an aparatus set up in the middle of the stage. I absolutely worship this song. I cannot gym without it. Enjoy the jaunty, lively video for Jump and I dare you not to shake your ass to it. I DARE YOU!

THE #1 SONG 25 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS....

......Vision of Love by Mariah Carey. Though Mariah has had her ups and downs..... and downs..... and downs over the years, she started off VERY strong with her first single and first of 18 #1 hits Vision of Love. Showing off her (then) powerful belt and stunning range, Mariah swept up the public, put them in her newly bought designer purse and vaulted up the charts to hit #1 on August 4, 1990 and stay there for four weeks with VOL. Her self-titled debut would produce three more #1s, but Vision of Love is a classic, y'all. I loved this song from the first moment I heard it. Here is the #1 song from 25 years ago this very day, Vision of Love by Mariah Scary Carey. Enjoy!

MADONNA FRIDAY: MADONNA'S #1 SINGLE FROM THIS WEEK IN 1992 WAS....

.....This Used To Be My Playground. Madonna scored a role in the 1992 Penny Marhsall movie A League of Their Own starring Geena Davis and it turned out to be one of her best performances. The film was a huge hit and Madonna's song that she recorded for the soundtrack hit #1 on the Hot 100 on August 8, 1992 and held the position for one week. This Used To Be My Playground is a beautiful ballad written by Madonna and Shep Pettibone during their Erotica sessions specifically for the film. It's one of Madonna's most loved and recognized ballads. Here is the #1 song from this week in 1992, This Used To Be My Playground. Enjoy! Happy Madonna Friday!

MADONNA FRIDAY: MADONNA MASH-UP WITH LANA DEL REY: FROZEN COAST

Madonna has had influence on many artists. I am not sure if Lana Del Rey counts Madge as an inspiration (although most female artists do), but this mash-up of Frozen and Lana's West Coast is dreamy AF!! They fit together so perfectly and their moods strangely meld to make a mesmerizing track. I would say that Lana's last album Ultraviolence does have just a tinge of Ray of Light in it's sound and general feel, so this makes sense. Now if only these two would record a song together!! Until then, here is your Madonna Friday offering, Frozen Coast. [source]

LANA DEL REY OFFERS LAST MINUTE SHOCKER IN 'HIGH BY THE BEACH' VIDEO

What you think is just another slow, pretty Lana Del Rey video turns out to be something quite different in the new clip for latest single High By The Beach. I already reviewed the song, so here is the video for you to enjoy. Stay with it. Lana's new album is due this fall.

MORE NEW DURAN DURAN: YOU KILL ME WITH SILENCE

Duran Duran continue to fucking KILL IT with their new output. First came the banger Pressure Off, then a couple of days ago the title track to their upcoming album Paper Gods (click links to listen), and today we get You Kill Me With Silence, a nod to the early mid-tempo New Wave sound of their early years. An eerie quality with bubbling syths laid over a pulsing bass line sets the mood for the new track and it's a good one. Listen and get ready for Paper Gods in September.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: TAYLOR DAYNE

There were many, many 80s ladies of pop music. Some have stayed with us, some have faded away, but few had the powerful voice to stick in our brains as Taylor Dayne. This bitch could S-A-N-G, y'all!! The native New Yorker started singing professionally straight out of high school and never looked back and released two singles under the name Les Lee (A version of her real name, Leslie Wunderman) on an indie label in 1986 before signing a major record deal in 1987 with Arista and releasing her debut album, Tell It To My Heart in 1988. That album produced four top 10 hits in the US and made Dayne an international recording superstar. It didn't stop there, queen. Taylor released Can't Fight Fate in 1989 which yielded three more top 10 hits, including the #1 Diane Warren-penned ballad Love Will Lead You Back, and a fourth top 20 single. 1993 saw the release of the critically acclaimed album Soul Dancing and a top 20 hit with the Barry White cover Can't Get Enough of Your Love. Even though this album contained, IMO, her best song ever (Send Me A Lover) it failed to connect with and audience on the same level as her two previous records. Taylor took a break for a few years and came back with Naked Without You and, even though she failed to make an impact on the pop charts, she scored two top 10 hits on the US Dance chart. From that point on Taylor Dayne was mostly a  dance music artist, but still maintains a presence on that chart to this day and putting a couple of top 40 hits on the US Adult Contemporary chart along the way. There is still a big place in the hearts of those who have heard and enjoyed her music, especially the late 80s/early 90s output. Listen to this voice and try not to ruin your panties. Here are some of Taylor Dayne's best and brightest, including an amazing live version of Send Me A Lover. Enjoy.

HUMPDAY SEXY SONG: LITA FORD

Lita Ford is a hot rocking mama. She began as a member of the all-girl seminal rock band The Runaways, along with Joan Jett, in the 70s and had solo success in the 80s with her glam-metal music and her pinup girl looks. Lita is no femme fatale. She is a very well respected guitarist, garnering recognition from many guitar and music magazines, and had a no-holds-barred attitude toward having it her way in the music biz. I'd say she's a pretty good example for all these younger chicks out there now. Anyway, here are Lita's sexy Humpday Sexy Song, Kiss Me Deadly. Try not to get too excited and hump a guitar in public. Rock!

DURAN DURAN RELEASES TITLE TRACK TO PAPER GODS

Duran Duran are not fucking around, y'all! The boys MEN are bringing to funk so far with their upcoming album Paper Gods. The first single, the absolutely amazing Pressure Off (ft. Janelle Monae) is one of the freshest sounding singles of the year and the newly released title track featuring British recording artist and producer Mr. Hudson is a seven-minute funkified opus. Lead singer Simon Le Bon describes the song like this:
"I think paper gods can be all kinds of things. That’s why it’s the title track of the album. Money could be paper gods or photographs or memories. Paper gods could be people who stand up on top of the hill, telling everyone what to do, or the people who own the newspapers and tell them what to think, or people who stand on soapboxes telling people what to say. I like the ambiguity of it and the different way it can be interpreted....It’s obviously about modern life and attitudes. What I would say is that it’s not a criticism. I think a lot of people think it’s a rant. It’s not. It’s just an observation really."
Don't worry, it takes about a minute for the groove to kick in, then you get the full Duran Duran funk experience. YES!! Can't wait for the album in September.

NEW LANA DEL REY: HIGH BY THE BEACH

Lana Del Rey is amping up the release of her next album Honeymoon and here is the second, very different single from the album, High By The Beach. The first and title track from the album was more of an orchestral situation, High By The Beach calls back to her first album Born To Die with it's hip hop beats and subtle synth backing track. I like! This is not a big surprise as Lana has stated that her new album will have a sound similar to Born To Die and it's extension Paradise. I'm excited for the new music!!!

THROWBACK THURSDAY: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GERI HALLIWELL!! HER GREATEST SOLO HITS

For this Throwback Thursday let's take a look at some of the solo work of former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell. I mean, she was the best one. Everything fell apart without her, right? Geri left the other Girls in 1998 amid a media frenzy and started releasing her solo music the following year. Her debut solo album, Schizophonic, only hit #4 on the UK album charts, but ended up being a huge success, going double platinum in the UK and producing four top 10 hits, three of which hit #1!! Not too shabby, bitches. Her second album, Scream If You Wanna Go Faster, started off with a bang when her cover of It's Raining Men shot to #1, but the album stalled at #5. Scream did produce two more top 10 hits though and eventually reached gold status in the UK. After Scream Geri took some time off and didn't record again until 2005's Passion. Despite scoring a top 10 hit with the excellent disco track Ride It, Passion completely failed to find an audience, debuted at #41 on the UK album charts and quickly disappeared. Geri has made a couple of attempts at music since, but nothing has really come of it. I mean, this bitch has so much Spice money that she doesn't need to work another day in her life, so leave her alone!!! And, in case you were counting, that four #1 hits and eight top 10s!! How many do you have? Anyway, here are some of Geri's catchiest, cheeky-ist hits for your Throwback Thursday joy. Happy birthday, Geri!!!

THE #1 SONG 35 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS.....

....Magic by Olivia Newton John. After making a big splash with her film debut, Grease, Hollywood was anxious to get ONJ back in a big budget musical. Xanadu seemed like the perfect vehicle: it has modern elements, nostalgic elements, Gene Fucking Kelly and a great soundtrack. Well, all did not go well with the film, which, despite now being a cult classic, was one of the biggest flops of all time and considered one of the worst films in modern movie history, BUT the soundtrack was a huge success. Olivia hit #1 on the US Hot 100 with the song Magic from the motion picture soundtrack. It is one of her biggest, most recognizable hits and stayed at the top spot for four weeks in August of 1980. Even all those roller-skating freakshows couldn't tarnish a genuine hit, girl!!! It went on to be the third biggest hit of 1980 and Olivia's biggest hit until the release of Physical the following year. Magic is a great pop tune and a classic 80s cut and one of my favorite songs of all time. Here is the #1 song from 35 years ago today, Magic.

MADONNA FRIDAY: BEDTIME STORY

An inkling of what was to come from her Ray of Light album three years later, Madonna released Bedtime Story as the third single form her Bedtime Stories album and introduced the world to her electronic music glory. Co-written by Nellee Hooper, Marius De Vries and Bjork, Bedtime Story is an electro-ballad with hints of acid, house and ambient music tied in. The trippy, fantastic video, directed by music video auteur Mark Romanek, only upped the ante of it's Bjork-ishness and made for one of the most visually stunning works of Madonna's career. Though it just missed the top 40 in the US (#42), it was a top 10 hit in the UK and other territories and foreshadowed Madonna's massive Ray of Light incarnation that would catapult her back into critical and commercial success. It is most definitely one of the most unique singles of Madonna's career. Here is the trip-hop gem Bedtime Story. Happy Madonna Friday!

NEW KATHARINE MCPHEE: LICK MY LIPS

Relatively new. Don't know how I missed this coming out a couple of months ago, but it's too good to go unposted!!! Here is a new song from Katharine McPhee called Lick My Lips. Written by Florence + the Machine's Isa Machine and Sam Sparro, the song is giving me early 80s, pre-fame Janet Jackson, y'all!! Listen below and pass it on. She is looking HOT!!! Hysteria, McPhee's next album, is due in September.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: WILSON PHILLIPS

Those songs! Those harmonies! That musical pedigree! Wilson Phillips were no mere girl group, they were rock royalty. Chynna Phillips, daughter of The Mamas & Papas singers John and Michelle Phillips, and Carnie and Wendy Wilson, daughters of The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson, grew up together. They knew each other from the time they were kids and started singing together, developing their own style of vocal harmony (supposedly. Just sounds like harmonies to me).  The three signed to SBK Records and released their debut, self-titled album in 1990 and it was fucking ON!!! Wilson Phillips, the album, sold over 10 million copies worldwide and produced three US Billboard #1 hits, Hold On, Release Me and You're In Love, and another top 10 with Impulsive (#4). A fifth single, The Dream Is Still Alive, hit #12. Riding high on their popularity, the group was asked to cover the song Daniel for Two Rooms: Celebrating the Song of Elton John & Bernie Taupin. The cover hit #7 on the AC charts on airplay alone as it was never released as a single. Work, bitches!! At the time, their debut album was the best selling album by a female group of all time. Now......their second album, Shadows and Light, contained some pretty great songs, but lacked the cohesion and punch of their debut. The lead single, You Won't See Me Cry (their finest single, IMO), with its lush harmonies and Victoria Secret-like video (which featured a much heavier Carnie completely covered up and wearing a bed, basically) failed to connect with the masses and only hit #20 on the Hot 100. Follow up Give It Up stalled at #30 and the album faded away. Chynna decided she would try her hand at a solo career and the group disbanded. Sad. Then Wilson Phillips reunited in 2004 for a cover album called California and the sparks were still there. California celebrated the songs of 60s and 70s by artist like The Beach Boys, The Mamas & The Papas, Linda Ronstadt and Fleetwood Mac, among others, and showed that the gals were still in fine form. They followed that album up in 2012 with Dedicated, an album of songs by their parents' bands. Their legacy at the height of their career may be short, but it has made a lasting impression on a generation. So much so that they made a cameo appearance in the finale of the mega-hit Bridesmaids featured as the lead characters', played by Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph, favorite group. I still pop in some Wilson Phillips and sing along to whichever harmony catches my fancy, and so should you. Here are the ladies' best ones, IMO. Enjoy!!

MADONNA FRIDAY: GAMBLER

The oft forgotten OTHER song from the Vision Quest Soundtrack, Gambler, was the second single released from the movie by Madonna after Crazy for You. The song was never released as a single in the US (BASTARDS!!), but the video was released to MTV to promote the film and Madonna performed it on her Virgin Tour, which is the first video I included in this post. Gambler was written by Madonna herself and produced by John "Jellybean" Benitez, her frequent collaborator and off-and-on boyfriend at that time. The song WAS released in other countries and became a top 10 hit in the UK (#4), Australia (#10), Ireland (#3) and Italy (#3) and other territories. Why wasn't Gambler released in the US at the height of the Madonna mania you ask? Well, Madonna was under contract with Warner's Sire label and the soundtrack was under Geffen records. While Crazy for You was allowed to be released by Sire, they asked that Gambler be held back in the US so as not to interfere with singles from her then-current Like a Virgin album. And that, my friends, is how the music industry works sometimes. I know I listened to the shiz out of this song on my little cassette player. Anyway, here is a forgotten classic by the one and only Madonna, Gambler. Enjoy your Madonna Friday!

NEW VIDEO: JANET JACKSON (FT. J. COLE) - NO SLEEEP

Janet Jackson finally brings us the video for her smooth AF single No Sleeep. This time she has a little assist from J. Cole who provides a nice, easy flow to the mix. The video is slow, dark and sexy as Janet wonders through her house, waiting for her lover to return home so she can bang like a banshee all night, hence "no sleeep". Get it? Jan looks amazing (duh) and the song reminds me a bit of the vibe of That's The Way Love Goes. That's not too shabby, y'all!!! Anyway, here is Janet's return to the music video. Enjoy!!!

THROWBACK THURSDAY: WHEN LEAD SINGERS GO SOLO, 80s EDITION

There were so many successful bands in the 80s that hinged on that one, charismatic person standing behind the microphone, the lead singer. While not every lead singer was able to spin off into a super solo career (sorry, Susanna Hoffs) some of the biggest hitmakers of the 80s started off fronting a band. There were the SUPER successful, like George Michael, Gloria Estefan, Phil Collins, Lionel Richie and Sting, the successful, like Belinda Carlisle and Bobby Brown, and the one hit solo wonders, like Boy George and Steve Perry. Some went back to their bands, some did not. Some are still kicking today. Here are just a few blasts from the past (and present) who started off as a face in the crowd behind the mic. Enjoy!!

PERFECT KATY PERRY/TAYLOR SWIFT MASHUP: WIDE AWAKE FROM THIS LOVE

Andy Wu Musicland brings us the most dreamy, perfect mashup one of my fave Katy Perry songs, Wide Awake, and my fave of Taylor Swift's from 1989, This Love. The mashup genius puts the two songs seamlessly together and I can't stop listening to the awesomeness. I shall pass it forward. You're welcome.

HUMPDAY SEXY SONG: KATY PERRY - TEENAGE DREAM

Aside from the fact that this is Katy's sexiest song, it was also one of my wedding songs, so needless to say, Teenage Dream is a sex-fest!! Ha. The euphoric song perfectly captures that feeling of excitement (and horniness) you had when you met that first boy/girl you fell for. The song was the second single and second #1 song from Katy's massive Teenage Dream album and spent two weeks at the top in September of 2010. The bridge of this song, "I can get your heart racing in my skin tight jeans..." gives me L-I-F-E!!!! And Josh Kloss, the guy in the video, gives my pants life. Now listen and go out, find your first teenage love and hump him/her....with consent of course. Here is Teenage Dream.

KYLIE COVERS '99 RED BALLOONS' AT GERMANY'S MELT! FESTIVAL

Kylie Minogue remembers well the Summer of '83 when the German group Nena made 99 Red Balloons  a massive world-wide hit, so it's no wonder the Aussie superstar would pull out all the stops for her German fans at the Melt! Festival at Ferropolis in Germany. Kylie and her band learned the English version of the song, which hit #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1983, especially for the crowd, and they ate it up!! Watch below. Kylie loves her fans and we love her.

THE #1 SONG 30 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS....

......A View To A Kill by Duran Duran. Already a bona fide phenomenon in the US by 1985, Duran Duran were a no-brainer to ask when it came to composing the theme to the James Bond film A View To A Kill. Their flare for the dramatic and intense popularity certainly qualified them. Together with composer John Barry, who was the composer of 11 Bond soundtracks, the band set out on the path to build one of the most successful Bond themes of all time and the ONLY Bond theme to ever reach #1 in the United States!!! Can you believe that? Well, it's true, so believe it. The song hit #1 on the US Hot 100 on July 13, 1985 and stayed for two weeks. The great thing about A View To A Kill is that it retained so much of Duran Duran's signature sound while incorporating the unmistakable feel of a Bond theme, thanks to the input of John Barry. Anyway, here is the classic Bond theme and #1 song from 30 years ago today, A View To A Kill. Enjoy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEBBIE HARRY.

Rock goddess Deborah Harry turns 70 today!! The legend started off as a go-go girl, a folk singer, a Playboy Bunny, a pixie-punk in the 70s, became a movie star in the 80s and has kept on rocking it with her band Blondie through today. Her voice got us hooked on classics like Hangin' On The Telephone, Heart of Glass, Call Me and Maria and her unique sense of fashion has influenced every generation since she first shook her blond tresses for the masses. There is nothing quite like her. Here are some of her and Blondie's biggest and best. Enjoy!!!

HUMPDAY SEXY SONG: I WANT YOU - MADONNA (FT. MASSIVE ATTACK)

Madonna was approached by Massive Attack to record a cover of the Marvin Gaye classic I Want You for the Gaye tribute album Inner City Blues at the suggestion of producer Nellee Hooper who had just worked with Madonna on her Bedtime Stories album. Madonna recorded her vocals in New York and Massive Attack produced the song. Originally intended to be released as a single, Motown, Gaye's label, and Madonna's record label could not come to an agreement, so I Want You was never officially released as a single. It did, however, appear on Madonna's compilation album Something To Remember and the video she made for it, inspired by the Dorothy Parker story A Telephone Call, was played heavily on VH1 and MTV. A lush, orchestrated version appears on Something To Remember as well as this absolutely gorgeous, trip-hop version. This is truly one of Madonna's sexiest, best vocal performances IMO. Here is I Want You. Hump a Gaye.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: BETTE MIDLER IN THE 80s

I'M SEEING BETTE MIDLER IN CONCERT TONIGHT!!!! It's my first time seeing her live. ANYHOOO....Bette Midler won the Grammy for Best New Artist in 1973, but many would argue her greatest success didn't come until the 1980s when she was an untouchable film and recording superstar. Starting with The Rose, which hit #3 on the Hot 100 in 1980, Bette's recording career took off. It was her first top 10 hit since 1973's Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and her performance in the film as a hard living rock icon earned her her first Oscar nomination. She followed up with a concert film, Divine Madness, which kept her in the public eye and on the charts. Bette's 1983 No Frills album had her in a more new wave/rock format featured her excellent cover of The Rolling Stone's Beast of Burden. Of course her biggest successes were yet to come. Her star continued to rise in films like Ruthless People, Outrageous Fortune and Big Business. With the release of the film and soundtrack to Beaches, Bette was on top of the world. Her rendition of Wind Beneath My Wings hit #1 on the Hot 100, earned a Grammy for Song of the Year and the album sold over 3 million copies in the US alone. Her continued success proves there is no doubt Bette is a Hollywood, entertainment legend and her work during the 80s is a big part of that. Here are some of The Divine Ms. M's best from the era.

HUMPDAY SEXY SONG: RIO - DURAN DURAN

One of the sexiest videos/songs to come out of the 80s, Duran Duran were video superstars already by the time Rio came out. In a very short time, the Brits were able to establish themselves in the medium with striking videos like Girls On Film, Planet Earth and Hungry Like the Wolf. Rio upped the ante by taking it to the beach, adding models and putting frontman Simon Le Bon in a teenie-weenie speedo. YAAAAS, QUEEN!! The result is slick, sleek and sexy as hell and epitomized 80s glamour. Enjoy the even objectification of women and Simon's package with today's Humpaday Sexy Song, Rio.

The third single from her excellent Queen of the Clouds album comes out just in time for Pride Week here in NYC and it shows that no matter who you are, where you are form or what you are going through there is someone out there who loves you. Here is Timebomb. Watch and love.

THE #1 SONG 31 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS....

...The Reflex by Duran Duran. Seems appropriate that the boys from DD would have out one of the hottest new songs in the world RIGHT NOW with Pressure Off (see HERE) featuring production by Nile Rodgers and as we take a look back in history we see they were already funky AF with their 1984 #1 single The Reflex, which became most popular in its remix form done by Nile RodgersIt marked the first time the band had worked with Rodgers. The third and final single from their moster 1983 album Seven and The Ragged Tiger, The Reflex became Duran Duran's most successful single ever, topping the charts in both the US and the UK and hitting #1 in many other territories. The song is just like the band: sleek, sexy and timeless. Enjoy the #1 song from 31 years ago today, The Reflex.
