MADONNA FRIDAY: RAY OF LIGHT

Since the weather is finally turning (knock on wood) it made me want to feature an upbeat, bright, shiny song this week. Madonna's Ray of Light, the album and the song, took Madge in a completely different direction in her career. After a break from making albums on her own and after the success of Evita, Madonna had given birth and turned to kabbalah. This more spiritual, earth-mother side was evident in her 1998 album Ray of Light. The second single released off the album was the title track and it came out soaring. The song was written by Madonna, William Orbit, Clive Muldoon, Dave Curtiss and Christine Leach, and was produced by Madonna and Orbit. Ray of Light was a fast-paced dance floor burner that found Madonna stretching herself vocally beyond what she had ever done before. Reaching #5 on the Hot 100 in July of 1998, the song and video, directed by Jonas Akerland, were everywhere. The song one two Grammys for Best Dance Recording and Best Short Form Music Video and was nominated for Record of the Year. Truly one of Madonna's most recognizable and popular hits, Ray of Light is a staple of her live performances now. Enjoy the amazy, luminescent hit Ray of Light. Do you feel like you just got home?
