DANNY GLOVER JOINS PROTEST AT HUGO BOSS PLANT IN OHIO
Actor Danny Glover of Leathal Weapon fame has been talking since the Oscars about Hugo Boss. Before the awards show Glover was urging actors To boycott the brand. "Hugo Boss says it wants to expand business in this country, and the brand depends on Hollywood cachet. Please tell the world you won't be wearing Hugo Boss (at the Oscars) on March 7." This all stems from the design label's decision to shut down their plant on Cleveland, Ohio and move production out of the country. Glover joined more than 1,500 people in signing a petition asking celebrities to keep Hugo Boss off the Oscar red carpet, and their efforts worked. The label's attire was reportedly down at the Academy Awards. Glover will join Workers United President Bruce Raynor and workers from the Hugo Boss suit factory outside the plant today to protest the closure. In a statement about the closing of the plant, Hugo Boss representatives stood behing their decision, saying, "The Cleveland Hugo Boss facility is not globally competitive. Hugo Boss tried in vain to find ways to make it globally competitive, and when that effort failed, we acted in the best interests of shareholders and customers by deciding to close the facility." We'll see how this Tory progresses. It's not a good time, image-wise, to take jobs away from American workers, but a businesss has to make maximum profits. [source]
