FLASHBACK: CHRISTINA AGUILERA - GENIE IN A BOTTLE

Well, Christina Aguilera announced a new album, has a movie coming out in November, and recently had a birthday, so I though it would be appropriate to look back at where she first burst onto the scene. Xtina was just an ex-Mouseketeer when she recorded her debut self-titled album, but that was soon to change. Genie in a Bottle was released June 22, 1999 (gawd we're old) and went straight to the top of the charts and stayed there for 5 weeks!!! Christina came out around the same time as fellow Mouseketeer Britney Spears and the two were immediately pitted against each other. Xtina ended up on top that year winning the Grammy for Best New Artist. A lot of controversy surrounded the single's hyper-erotic lyrics and the sexual video which had 18-year-old Xtina writhing around like a slut in heat. Something we would all get used to seeing in the years to come. Nevertheless, the song remains a signature for Christina and she is still going strong. There is no doubt in anyone's mind whether or not Aguilera can sing. It'll be exciting to see what she comes up with on her next album.
