GLEE-THE MUSIC VOL. 1 - REVIEW!

It's finally here!!!!!! I got up this morning (still sick) and turned on my computer and it started downloading automatically...GLEEEEEE!!!!!! I have been waiting on pins and needles for this and now it's here!! How gay am I??? I know what you're thinking, "you've heard all these songs already!" True. But now I am hearing them for the first time, all in one place, and without the benefit of seeing them being performed, which makes a difference. Haven't you ever heard a song on the radio only to discover the video was what you ACTUALLY liked about it? It's happened to me a hundred times. So I was anxious to listen to these songs on their own merit. I won't do a song-by-song breakdown since I have talked about some of these before, but I have to hit the high-lights, of which there are plenty! Of course Don't Stop Believin' is a masterpiece of choral work. The acapella background is inspired and the lead vocals by Lea Michele and Cory Montieth are superb. Amber Riley wails on the beginning of Gold Digger while Matthew Morrison is the cutest thing since puppies were created doing the rap. So adorable I want to reach through the speaker and pinch his lil' cheeks. I can't say enough about Lea Michele's magnificent voice on all her tracks: Take a Bow and Taking Chances show that this girl has a recording career in her future that is going to be amazy! Kristin Chenoweth stops in for a couple of songs from her appearance on the show and the stand out is her version of Alone by Heart (with Matt Morrison). That girl can S-A-N-G!!! Amber Riley knocks it out of the park on Bust Your Windows and Hate On Me, infusing them with enough soul to make today's diva's sit up, take notice, and pee themselves in fear. She is a sassy one, that Amber. Mark Salling, who plays bad boy Noah, gets his chance to shine on Sweet Caroline and it is done very well, with just enough Neil Diamond to pay tribute, but not imitate. Kevin McHale (or as Sue Sylvester calls him "Wheelchair") sings a cover of Billy Idol's Dancin' with Myself. It's slowed down and smokey and kinda sexified! Very cool cover and his voice is great! Defying Gravity from Wicked is performed by Lea Michele and, surprisingly, NOT Kristin Chenoweth but Chris Colfer, who plays the gay kid Kurt. They do a really, really great job. I was pleasantly surprised to hear this come together so well. It's a real jewel on the album. Over all this album is pretty amazing and it stands well alone without the theatrics to support it. Some of these songs haven't even appeared on the show yet, so it gives you an idea of what's to come. Go out and get your copy now, it's a goodie!!! PS....DOWLOAD GLEE'S VERSION OF NO AIR. IT'S AMAZING AND YOU CAN TAKE CHRIS BROWN OFF YOUR IPOD!!
