FLASHBACK: SAFIRE, THE GIRL BEHIND THE MICHAEL JACKSON SONG SCANDAL

So, if you have been hearing about the controversy surrounding the "new" Michael Jackson song This Is It, you know it was first recorded by an artist called Safire (or Sa-Fire) back in 1991 and it was called I Never Heard. Well, Safire actually had a few hits and was a pioneer of sorts in Latin freestyle music. Her biggest hit was a song called Thinking of You (#12 on the Hot 100, #3 Adult Contemporary Chart). It was a tribute to her uncle who had died of AIDS complications. Safire and the song were featured in a campaign for AIDS awareness. I remember this song very well and I am pretty sure I knew all the words. She was featured in various magazines, including Vogue, and was the first Latina to ever be on the cover of SPIN magazine. NOW....Can we talk about those eyebrows!!!! GURRRLLLL!!!! Very '90s appropriate though. [source][picture source]
