MADONNA FRIDAY: LIVE TO TELL

Madonna was making a transition in 1986 when she released Live to Tell. After the girlish voice and East Village clothes of the first two albums, Madonna dropped to her lower register and donned a simple dress and classic, Hollywood hair for the video. The song was written as a gift for Sean Penn's birthday and Madonna allowed it to be used as the theme song for his film At Close Range. (The song did CONSIDERABLY better than the film.) The change is image paid off as the song hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on June 7, 1986, becoming Madonna's third number one on the chart. Madonna has performed the song in concert many times, most notably in the Confessions tour where it caused controversy as Madonna sang it while on a mirrorball cross with a crown of thorns on her head to make a point about the AIDS epidemic in Africa. You know, just a day in the life of Madonna. A classic song by any standard, Live to Tell is a standout in the arsenal of Madonna hits and really holds up well. Enjoy the beautiful Live to Tell.
