LENA HORNE DIES AT 92

Legendary movie, Broadway and concert performer Lena Horne has died at the age of 92. Lena rose to stardom in the 1940s as one of the first black singers to sing with a major white band, and the very first to play at the Copacadana nightclub. She soon entered films, starring in the 1943 all-black MGM musical Stormy Weather, the title song of which became her signature song and a huge hit. She conquered the Broadway stage in 1957 starring in Jamaica. She won a Tony award in 1981 for her one-woman show Lena Horne: The Lady and her Music. Lena worked for racial equality her whole life, often turning down jobs in places that didn't allow African Americans. Horne died Sunday at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, no details have been released. R.I.P. Lena. [source][image]
