THE #1 SONG 28 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS.....

.....Addicted to Love by Robert Palmer. The video that launched a thousand carbon-copy videos. Robert Palmer had been around for a while by this week in 1986, but Addicted to Love was his first and only #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The third single from his album Riptide, Addicted hit the top of the Hot 100 on May 3, 1986 and stayed for one week, being replaced by Pet Shop Boys' West End Girls, but the music video's concept (the dead-behind-the-eye rhythm-challenged model zombies in heavy makeup) would go on to spawn several videos for Palmer himself and many, many takes on the concept by other artists, most recently Ingrid Michaelson's Girls Chase Boys, but in my opinion the best is Shania Twain's Man! I Feel Like A Woman. That's just my two cents. Take it or TAKE IT! Anyway, the song and video are both iconic and Addicted to Love remained Palmer's signature song until his untimely death in 2003 of a heart attack. I'm sure he's dancing with models somewhere now. Enjoy the #1 song from this day in 1986 and sway along awkwardly to the music.
