MADONNA FRIDAY: MADONNA SETS ANOTHER BILLBOARD CHART RECORD

Madonna asserts herself as The Queen once again scoring her 45th #1 on the Dance Chart this week with Ghosttown. This makes her the artists with the most #1 hits on any Billboard chart in history. This puts her just ahead of country music legend George Strait who has scored 44 #1s on the Hot Country Chart. I'd say that's pretty good company. "Thanks to all my fans on and off the dancefloor," Madonna said in an exclusive statement to Billboard. "I'll (always) be your partner." Here is a list of all of Madonna's #1 songs on the dance chart, starting with 1983's Holiday/Lucky Star and one of the excellent remixes of Ghosttown.

1983, "Holiday"/"Lucky Star" (five weeks at No. 1)

1985, "Material Girl"
1985, "Angel"/"Into the Groove"
1987, "Open Your Heart"

1988, "You Can Dance (LP Cuts)"
1989, "Like a Prayer" (two)
1989, "Express Yourself" (three)
1990, "Keep It Together"
1990, "Vogue" (two)
1991, "Justify My Love" (two)
1992, "Erotica"

HUMPDAY SEXY SONG: IF - JANET JACKSON

Janet Jackson's image was drastically changed with the release of 1993's janet.  No long just the cute little sister next door, Janet was now a sexual, empowered woman willing to tell you exactly what she wanted. The second single from the smash album was If.  Overtly sexual lyrics ("your smooth and shiny feels so good against my lips, sugar") and raunchy dance moves set the mood for one of Janet's most distinctive and celebrated videos of all time. Directed by Dominic Sena and choreographed by Tina Landon, the clip is set in an Asian club where people flirt virtually through computer screens and hook up in the back,  If also highlights some of Janet's most iconic dance moves. The track hit #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. Most definitely one of Janet's biggest hits, If is probably her sexiest as well. Check out the clip and, just to keep in in theme, hump something Asian.

MADONNA FRIDAY: INTO THE GROOVE

Madonna has many, many classic songs, but high -- WAY high on that list would sit a little song I like to call (because it's the name of the song) Into the Groove. Jebus lawd, this song is amazy!!! What most people DON'T realize is that it was never actually released as a single in the U.S. It was merely a B-side to Madonna's song Angel which was the third single from her Like a Virgin album. Her record company released it as a B-side so it wouldn't compete with the songs on her LAV album, but also to promote her film debut in Desperately Seeking Susan. The song did get a single release in the UK, reaching #1 in the summer of 1985, and in many other countries around the world. It also reached #1 on the US Dance chart along with Angel. Into The Groove is without a doubt a highlight in not only Madonna's long career, but in the dance music genre in general, changing the beat and sound of the 80s. The music video is made up of clips from Madonna's first starring role in Desperately Seeking Susan, and shows THE early image of Madge's early career that made her a phenomenon. Madonna still performs it in concert, most notably on her Sticky & Sweet Tour where she sang it while doing double-dutch. She's over 50, people!! Deal with it. Anyway, here is the classic song Into the Groove. Love love love it!

NEW VIDEO: PRINCE - BREAKFAST CAN WAIT

Bringing it old school, musically, Prince's new track Breakfast Can Wait sounds like a throw back to some of his funky, early 90s tracks like Cream or Letitgo. Good stuff!! The video is HOT too. Although Prince himself does not appear in the video (boo!), lead female dancer Danielle Curiel (yay!) does jack his 80s curls and pencil 'stache and lip sync a little for us. The choreography is great and the dancers are working it like it's 1999. See what I did there? You can buy the song at Prince's website 3rdEyeGirl.com and watch some videos and such. Now put on some purple and dance.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROBYN!

Swedish pop darling Robyn is 33 today!! Robyn may not yet be a household name in the US, but who cares!??!! She's fierce! Her last trilogy of Body Talk albums blew my mind and produced some of the best dance/pop anthems in recent history. This past January Robyn also tweeted that she was working on new music, so hopefully we'll have more to dance about by the end of the year. Keep your fingers crossed!! Here are the major singles from Body Talk for you to enjoy today. Happy bday, Robyn!!!

GEORGE MICHAEL COMPLETES "BEST DANCE RECORD" HE'S EVER MADE

Exciting!!! George Michael has a little gift for all of us fans who were worried when he had to cancel his tour due to illness earlier in the year, a new song!! Michael took to his twitter on Monday and tweeted:
YAY!! White Light is the name of the new album that he is proclaiming will have us shaking our patooties. Michael also had this to say:
"I've been a busy boy in the studio this week, mixing symphonica and finally ready to write about what happened to me in Vienna.....And how grateful I am to be given another chance to live and breathe alongside you all in this wonderful world that we share...You may recall my reference to those strange individuals who took the time to pray for my death as I lay in my hospital bed back in November...But don't think I don't realise how many of you out there prayed for my recovery. I thank you all from the deepest part of my soul xxx...And i will repay your unending kindness the only way I know how. With music. Yesterday I began to write a song called "White Light". It's for all of you, for everyone who prayed for me, for every one of you who has prayed for me, for every person who has stopped me in the streets to ask me how I'm doing, you have made me feel so blessed. And I promise you it's a blinder. :)"

Awesome! There's always a little room in our lives for more dancing and more George Michael. No word on when the song will be released yet.

MADONNA POSTS 42nd #1 ON DANCE/CLUB PLAY CHART

Just three weeks after Give Me All Your Luvin' became her 41st #1 on the Billboard Dance/Club Play charts, Madonna is back on top with Girl Gone Wild. The second single from MDNA jumps from 4-1 on the chart posting tomorrow. Girl Gone Wild joins a long list of ultra-recognizable Madonna classics at the top of the chart which she has ruled since 1983. The video, released last week, brought more attention to the song with it's black and white glamour and sexy male dancers in heels. Madonna's album became the top selling album not just in the US but in the WORLD last week, selling upwards of 750,000 copies worldwide. Oh, and don't forget that her MDNA World Tour will probably be the most successful tour by a solo artist of all time, besting her LAST tour. Girl gone FIERCE is more like it.

WATCH THESE DANCERS WORK IT OUT TO MADONNA'S GIRL GONE WILD

HOT!! These kids are not kidding around. Watch as the choreography of Dejan Tubic and Janelle Ginestra comes to life in a dance class full of fierceness. Not too much else to be said. Just watch, hoes. You may not want to try this at home unless you've stretched. Ha. Go.

JUSTIN THEROUX BREAKDANCES ON ELLEN

This is 300 shades of adorable. Justin Theroux, Jennifer Aniston's main squeeze and my long time crush (remember him on Sex & the City?) was on The Ellen Degeneres Show yesterday and got challanged! After telling a cute story about Jen begging him to do some poppin' and lockin' and how he said he needed his breakin' shoes, Ellen pulls out a surprise. Watch and giggle. Not afraid to admit, kinda hot.

BEYONCE'S NEW VIDEO IS A RIP OFF OF A BELGIAN CHOREOGRAPHER

WOW!! This is pretty blatant, I must say. Beyonce's new video for her song Countdown is pretty much a rip-off of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's choreography for Rosas danst Rosas and Achterland. I mean, it's exactly the same for gays' sake. Even the "behind bars" aspect. Geesh! De Keersmaeker states, “What’s rude about it is that they don’t even bother about hiding it. They seem to think they could do it because it’s a famous work. Am I honored? Look, I’ve seen local school kids doing this. That’s a lot more beautiful.” Well, that's a good attitude of course. The director of the music video, Adria Petty (daughter of Tom Petty), in an interview with MTV, stated that along with Knowles, they viewed some German modern dance clips and taking inspiration from them, although she never mentioned De Keersmaeker specifically. I mean, who knows if Beyonce even realized that this video is basically stolen goods, but it's pretty clear. To see the resemblance, watch the comparisons below. Give credit where credit is due!

VIDEOS: BRITNEY OPENS HER FEMME FATALE TOUR

WARNING: IF YOU ARE A DIEHARD BRITNEY FAN, DO NOT READ THIS, BUT YOU CAN WATCH THE VIDEOS BELOW:
This is negative, and I'm sorry. For what it's worth, here are some videos of Britney's opening night in Sacramento on her Femme Fatale Tour. Arm-ography, half-assed backbends and head whipping were apparently the themes of the night for our Brit. I especially like the move where she walks up the stairs. Groundbreaking. And the flaccid lapdance was a nice touch as well. It's really sad to see her doing the choreography, or NOT doing it, to I'm A Slave 4 U. Why???? The costumes are not very flattering either. Time to cover up. I hate to say it, but stop performing on stage, sweetie. It's fine. I don't know who is forcing you to do this, but they should be brought to court immediately. I'm sure the people actually at the show had a good time watching all the pyro and dancers, but C'MON!

GAGA HITS #1 ON DANCE CHART WITH JUDAS

Lady Gaga has hit #1 again, this time on the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs chart. The song Judas takes the top spot this week, making this her 8th consecutive song to top that chart. The only song not to reach the summit was first single Just Dance, which of course hit #1 on the Hot 100. Congrats, Gaga!

KIRSTIE ALLEY GETS ALMOST PERFECT SCORE WITH ARGENTINE TANGO

Move over Evita, Kirstie is on your tail. Last night on Dancing With the Stars (which, for the record) I don't watch) Kirstie Alley and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy gave a near perfect performance (by DWTS standards) of the Argentine Tango. After a nasty fall during rehearsals, Kirstie kicked it up a notch and killed during performance. Go, Kirstie. How great does she look???? Hot mamma. Bitch is 60 YEARS OLD!!!! Yay!

YIKES. DANCE OFF!!! OLD BRITNEY VERSUS NEW BRITNEY

Thanks to PopDust, we can see how far Britney has come (or digressed) in her dancing since her heyday. Poor Brit ain't what she used to be in the dancing department, but her arm-ography is still working. Watch the comparison and long for the old days. It's kinda sad, so I hope the meds are worth it.

KIRSTIE ALLEY KICKS ASS ON DANCING WITH THE STARS

DAMN!! Who knew Kirstie could move like this? First of all, let me make it clear: I DO NOT AND WILL NEVER WATCH DANCING WITH THE STARS. It makes me feel gross and sad. That being said, I WILL watch Kirstie Alley on anything. I love her. So youtube is my friend when it comes to this situation. Kirstie is partnered with, apparently, someone that is a good partner and sassy and from some foreign country. This week they did the Cha Cha Cha and Kirstie tore that shizz up! She can really move. And even though she's been smaller, the woman looks GREAT!!!!! She's freakin' 60 years old, y'all! Watch her rip up the dancefloor below. Stay tuned for a lot more Kirstie.

NEW VIDEO: BRITNEY SPEARS - HOLD IT AGAINST ME

Okay. First of all, I love Britney. I am rooting for her. I remember the Britney that always gave 100% at everything she did. Her last album, Circus, was a really great pop album, but it seemed she had lost the will to perform. Now comes Hold It Against Me. I am not crazy about the song, but her first singles are not always my fave from her albums, so that doesn't disturb me, but this video is a BIG OL' MESS!! It's edited like the audience can't pay attention to anything for more than three seconds (maybe we can't). Where is all the dancing we were promised? There is no dancing to speak of at all! Remember Slave 4 U, Stronger, Overprotected? Britney can dance like a beyotch! Where was it? Britney's face and body look great, so why did they stretch the screen, a la Paula Abdul's fat days, and put wigs on her that look like they came out of a 1970s country music television special? Also, the paint shooting out of the hands was a great idea, but you never see her face while it's actually happening. BODY DOUBLE!! Then there's a vacant look in her eye. I don't blame Britney totally for this fiasco, but her people need to pull it together. Even her choreographer, Brian Friedman, said on his twitter "Britney Fans... I DIDN'T edit or direct the video so please do not place hostility at me if you aren't happy with what you have seen or see. ...Britney worked her ass off for this video and she and I hope that you all love it." Sounds like a preemptive "sorry" to me. Oh, well. Watch for yourself and decide. I say no.

MADONNATHON: VOGUE

Vogue in an undeniable pop classic, one of Madonna's most successful singlesand has glamour running out of it's ass! Originally released in 1990 on the album I'm Breathless (Music from and inspired by the film Dick Tracy), Vogue was written originally to be a B-side for the single Keep It Together from Like a Prayer. Shep Pettibone and Madge wrote it, but the record company thought it was too good to be a B-Side and so they included on the I'm Breathless album, adding in the middle spoken part about classic movie stars to tie-in with the theme of the album. I think anyone worth their salt knows that part of Vogue. If you don't, you must be a deaf nerd. The song reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 and also reached No. 1 in 30 countries. It was a record at the time for Madonna. (Since taken over by Hung Up which hit No. 1 in 45 countries). The video is thought by many to be one of Madonna's greatest. Shot in black and white with bright, beautiful lighting, Madonna and her dancers "vogue" and dance their way through several setups inspired by 1930s Hollywood and the Art deco artist Tara de Lempicka. The song and video are, dare I say, pop masterpieces that have really stood the test of time. Enjoy Vogue.

CELEBRATE JANET JACKSON'S "NUMBER ONES" IN A FAN FLASH MOB

Thus reads a Twitter from Ms. Jackson herself (or whomever it is that tweets for her!) On November 4th in L.A. fans are gathering to join in a Flash Mob to dance to some of J's biggest hits. For those of you not familiar with the term, as Flash Mob, according to wikipedia, is a "large group of people who assemble suddently ina public place, perform an unusual action for a brief time, then quickly disperse". Much like the event recently where people all over the world danced to Thriller, now you get your chance to dance for Jan. Sounds fun!!! I love Janet and dance around my apartment in my underwear to her all the time. I know, TMI!!! Okay. So if you're in L.A. next week, do it!! You can also follow flashmobamerica on twitter for similar events.
