TODAY IN HISTORY: BEATLES ON THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW

February 9, 1964- The Beatles gave their first live US television performance on The Ed Sullivan Show, watched by approximately 74 million viewers—over 40 percent of the American population. Of course, they went on to sell over 200 million records in the United States alone and it's estimated anywhere between 600 million and 1 billion the world over, more than any other musical act ever. Wow. I guess Ed really had the scoop. The Beatles are still a force in the music industry some 46 years after that appearance, and 31 years after they broke up!! The recent release of their catalogue on iTunes has resulted in 5 million song downloads and over a million album downloads according to Apple. That's pretty amazing for a band that's been inactive for over 30 years...OR ANYONE!! So, in case you have never seen it, below is the original appearance on the Ed Sullivan show of arguably the greatest band of all time, The Beatles. Check it out!!!
