I would love to be a fly on the wall when some deserving person gets their hands on Fred Phelps. The gaggle of psychos at the Westboro Baptist Church are uncaring, maniacal assholes with no humanity in their hearts, more or less knowledge of what "god" is supposed to be. The "church" targeted the funeral of a slain soldier claiming god was killing soldiers because of the United States' tolerance of homosexuality. WHAT?? Needless to say the soldiers poor father sued the church for punitive damages, emotional distress and compensation. He was awarded $11 million dollars in October 2007. Well, as expected, the church refused to pay. The case went back to court and the award was cut in half.... That is until the US District Court of Appeals threw it out altogether. BOO!!!! This poor father. Well now the Supreme Court will hear the case. The church is saying they have a right to free speech. Towleroad reports:
The WaPo reports: "The case will seek to balance a group's free speech rights with the rights of private individuals to be protected from unwanted demonstrations and defamatory remarks. A federal appeals court said the church's protests were 'utterly distasteful' but protected because they were related to 'matters of public concern.' The case was one of three the court announced it would be considering in its new term that begins in October."
This should simply be illegal. To cause this kind of disruption at anyone's funeral, especially a funeral of a slain child where the parents are in attendance and the son fought for our country! This is disgraceful. If there us a he'll, I bet Fred Phelps and his congregation will be surprised they are burning in the hottest part of it. Amen!
