TRAILER FOR THE HOBBIT IS FINALLY HERE!
Peter Jackson is reviving one of the most
critically acclaimed and successful franchises of all time. The prequel to The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit, is coming out NEXT December, but we have the trailer already. SO EXCITING!!! This story, if you have never read it, is mostly about a young Bilbo Baggins, played by Martin Freeman, and how he came to find the ring. Lots of characters are here, but some, sadly, are not. It's gonna be amazy!!! Watch the trailer below and get into LOTR a
ll over again. I'm a nerd.

NEW MUSIC & VIDEO: LANA DEL REY: BORN TO DIE
Another good sign that a killer album is coming. Lana Del Rey has already given us the sublime Video Games and Blue Jeans, now she returns with thrones and tigers on Born To Die. Much like its predecessors, Born To Die is dreamy, slightly retro and sexy as all hell. The much discussed, criticized and hyped singer will be dropping her album in January and she is musical guest on Saturday Night Live that month as well. We'll be seeing a lot of her in the upcoming months. What do you think? Do accusations of her being manufactured or fake drive you away from her music? Does it matter as long as the product is good. It's the same thing that happened to Alanis Morissette when she first came out and people knew her as the Canadian Debbie Gibson before. People change their style, folks. Get on board before you are the lone nerd hating on Lana. Just my opinion, of course, which is only right 99.99% of the time.

WATCH SNL'S TARAN KILLAM RECREATE ROBYN'S CALL YOUR GIRLFRIEND VIDEO
AAAAANNNNDDDD he nails it!! I have slowly been falling for Taran Killam on Saturday Night Live, and now I'm into him big time. A) He has a killer name and B) he clearly love Robyn. Watch him recreate her fantabulous video for Call Your Girlfriend in a tiny room with some friends and fellow cast members. HE IS NOT KIDDING AROUND, YOU GUYS!!! This is serious business. Don't believe he did it right? I included the side-by-side comparison below it. Watch it and weep.
NEW WILLOW SMITH FT. NICKI MINAJ: FIREBALL
Okay!! She is not kidding around anymore! No pun intended. Well, a little pun. Willow Smith is starring in her very own Hype Williams directed video for her new single featuring Nicki Minaj, Fireball. Guess what! This is song is freakin' good!!! And Willow is a dancer like I did not expect. Rock it out, girl. She's got another hit on her hands and this time she isn't going to develop whiplash cranking her head around. Check out the massive video for Fireball. Nice combo with Nicki too. She can rap clean and still kill it. Girl Power!!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DONNA SUMMER!!!
Donna Summer, the Queen of Disco, is 63 today! Donna has one of the best voices EVER in pop music, and with a career spanning 40-plus years, I would say she outlasted the Disco backlash by a few thousand miles. Donna is still recording and sounding as good, if not better, than ever. I truly love to love her, baby. Every time you hear these classics, tell me you don't wanna dance. Here are some of my absolute have moments in Ms. Summer's career. Happy birthday, Diva!!

GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATIONS ARE HERE!!!
Hot on the heels of the SAG Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press announces this year's nominees for the coveted, if not totally rigged, Golden Globes!!! FINALLY KRISTEN WIIG GETS COME LOVE, PEOPLE!!!! She could even win if the stars are aligned. Probably not. Glad to see Bridesmaids nominated in the Best Picture, Comedy/Musical group. However, I am appalled that The Good Wife is not nominated for Best TV Series, Drama. WTF is that? TRAILER FOR ROCK OF AGES
The jukebox musical is once again hitting the big screen, this time with Rock of Ages. I saw this show on Broadway and I love it, love it!!! It's funny, of course the music is great, and it's "nothing but a good time". I'm not overwhelmed by the trailer, but it's okay. It seems to be taking things a bit more seriously. Hmmm... Alec Baldwin looks funny, Catherine Zeta-Jones is working her best Sarah Palin, but they don't even show the leads and keep Tom Cruise all secrety. (Of course, Tom is the expert at keeping secrets, so..) C'mon, give us the goods!!! I'm still gonna see it, don't get me wrong. Hope it's as fun as the show. The movie is set to be released on June 1, 2012. We'll see a lot more before then I bet.

AWESOME VIDEO/PROMO FOR THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO: TRENT REZNOR AND KAREN O
Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's lends vocals to Trent Reznor's AMAZY cover of Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song and apparently, a la the Bond movies, it will have its own little video (this one) at the beginning of the film and serve as the opening credits. But you can watch it now because I like you so much (and because it showed up online). I must say, this is kick ass cover, but I can't make head-nor-tails out of this video. Visually stunning though! Watch and decide.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JERMAINE JACKSON!!
Jermaine, the third most musically successful member of the Jackson family (third by a long way) is 57 today. Of course, Jermaine sang lead on many a Jackson 5 song, but he also had a very successful, if short-lived, solo career in the late 70s and early 80s. Jermaine cracked the top 10 with his 1979 hit Let's Get Serious and the top 20 with Dynamite (one of my all-time fave 80s videos) and the pretty Do What You Do in 1984 and I Think It's Love in 1986. Then, not so much after. He made some good-ass videos though. Clearly his label was pushing him as hard as possible to capitalize on Michael's fame as well. Today Jermaine mainly does press about Michael, but hey, whaddayagonnado? Sure his face looks like it might be melting now, but he's still out there working it for all it's worth. Here are the highlights, in my opinion, of Jermaine's career, including his song When the Rain Begins to Fall with 80s vixen Pia Zadora that was a huge hit....in Switzerland, Germany, France, Holland and Austria. Still good though. Nice Jackson-ing, Jermaine.

WATCH MERYL STREEP IN LATEST TRAILER FOR "THE IRON LADY"
OOOOOHHHH!! This is gonna be good! Meryl Streep once again transforms her very being to play the iconic role of former British Prime Minsister Margaret Thatcher for her sure-to-be Oscar nominated performance, it will be her 17th, in The Iron Lady. She is tearing those boys a new one in this trailer. Looks like the film will not shy away from the good and the bad in Thatcher's career, so we're in for a whirlwind I bet. Meryl is truly a wonder and has already picked up Best Actress honors from New York Film Critics Circle. Oscar may be next! MERYL!!!!!!!

HALLELUJAH! IT'S HERE. THE HANGOVER PILL
It's like the morning after pill, but for everyone. My life just got a little easier! Just in time for my holiday bender, the FDA has approved a "hangover pill" that claims to rid one of several symptoms of hitting the happy juice in as little as 15-30 minutes. Up until now I have just had to start drinking again the next morning, but this could work too. The pill contains 1,000 milligrams of aspirin, 120 milligrams of caffeine and a stomach-soothing agent into two effervescent tablets, like Alka Seltzer, taken the morning after a night of partying with the Satan sauce. Once dissolved in water, the little buggers put the kibosh on your hangover in just 15 to 30 minutes. Do I hear angels singing or have I had too much whiskey today? Either way, YAY! The hangover helper is called Blowfish and it costs a mere $2.99 for one dose or $11.99 for a six-pack. If you live in Manhattan you're in luck, because you can pick it up at Ricky's NYC stores. Duane Reade will start carrying my favorite drug in January. It's like the second coming!

THIRD ANNUAL AMAZY MUSIC AWARDS: ALBUMS
10. James Blake by James Blake - the debut album by the British newcomer is quite possibly the most depressing thing I have ever enjoyed. Quiet and eerie, the album is a look into the psyche of a brilliant young artist. Very ethereal and wonderfully different, it will be interesting to see what comes next from Blake.
9. Sing It Loud by k.d. lang - aside from the fact that it's always good to hear new music from k.d. lang, Sing It Loud especially delivers the goods. It's all there; the dreamy voice, the astounding harmonies, the perfect lyrics and that pop/country twang only lang can do. I was lucky enough to see k.d. in concert this year and she is at the top of her game. Sing It Loud is a must-have.
8. Cinderella's Eyes by Nicola Roberts - the British import and member of uber-girl group Girls Aloud, Nicola came out of nowhere with one of the catchiest albums of the year, stealing the thunder of those other, more famous Girls. Every song is sunny and catchy and Nicola's voice is made for Brit pop. Beat of My Drum is an undeniable jam and it's only the tip of the iceberg. Well done, Nicola. Let's have some more.
7. All You Need Is Now by Duran Duran - how do you relaunch your career? Take it back to the beginning and update that shit. And few have had better beginnings than Duran Duran, the seminal 80s British band. AYNIN, Duran Duran's 13th studio album, is the perfect update of their mega-successful 80s brand; sexy, brash, lush and, did I mention, SEXY! Simon and the boys nailed it on this one and took me back to the days of Rio and The Reflexwith the title track and especially Girl Panic. Stellar.
6. Talk That Talk by Rihanna - released barely in time to make this year's list, it certainly makes an immediate impact. Talk That Talk comes out just over a year after RiRi's last effort, Loud, but, IMHO, leaves it in the dust. The #1 song We Found Love and follow up You Da One are just two of multiple single-worthy tracks that I'm sure will be playing on the radio all year. If you are gonna rush out new music, this is the way to do it.
5. Femme Fatale by Britney Spears - catchy songs, improved videos, smiling; Britney may be back on track after all. Femme Fatale, Spears' 7th studio album, finds our Brit-Brit cooing and crooning to a lot of dancefloor friendly songs, like the fantastic Til the World Ends, and even giving us some real pop melodies on songs like Criminal. It's also the first album in Britney's career to produce three top 10 singles!! The ol' gal still has it. Keep it up, Britney...as long as you want to, that is.
4. Beth Ditto EP by Beth Ditto - sporting a mere four songs, the robust lead singer of Gossip, Beth Ditto, released an EP so powerful it overcomes its competitors in the album category. Each song is crafted perfectly to fill the sad-but-dancing gap left by Robyn's Body Talk series from last year. Good Night, Good Morning alone is enough to make you fall in love with this set. Beth's voice is a revelation and her appearance is unique, to say the least, but also wonderfully rebellious. Here is hoping that her next solo effort will have even more music. Beth is on her way up.
3. Gaslight by fDeluxe - the Prince proteges have not recorded together since the release of The Family in 1986, which is the name they went by then. Together again after 26 years and sounding better than ever on their own terms (and without the Prince-given name), the band kicks out one of the best albums of this or any year with Gaslight. The Minneapolis sound is in effect with an updated funk and sincerity that comes with age and wisdom. A powerful show of musicianship and perseverance, fDeluxe deserve recognition for this album. Hope they get more of it.
2. 21 by Adele - no denying, it's been the year of Adele. The British blue-eyed soul singer came out of nowhere to steal the heart and $$ of music listeners this year. Her album combines soul and pop in a way that reached the masses, over 4 million of the masses to be exact, making 21 the biggest selling album of the year. Her heart and soul are all over this record. Two #1 songs spent multiple weeks at the summit of the Hot 100 and her album keeps coming back time after time. Adele is on fire!
1. BORN THIS WAY BY LADY GAGA - Lady Gaga had a lot to live up to, not just sales-wise, but for her fans. She promised this album would be for her little monsters, and boy is it! Songs about acceptance, empowerment, rebellion, joy, love, Jesus, fashion and sex abound on Born This Way. Even a little country. Epic in its scope, BTWdelivers hook after hook, "Gaga" after "Gaga" until we are completely spent. From the #1 title track to the moving The Edge of Glory, this album has hidden treasures that have yet to see the light of day, like hopeful singles Heavy Metal Lover, Bloody Mary and Black Jesus + Amen Fashion, and they are SCREAMING for videos. Gaga sold 1.11 million album with Born This Way in it's first week, the largest first week sales in over five years, and the album is just revving up. Here is to ANOTHER year of Gaga. She's here to stay, peeps!!!!
So there you have it, the top 10 albums of 2011. Stay tuned in the upcoming days for a special, three-day installment of the top 15 songs of 2011. It'll be totally worth it. Don't believe me? Then you, my friend, are stupid. Just kidding. No, I'm not.
