SO YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT JESSIE J?

Well, I'll oblige. First of all her real name is Jessica Ellen Cornish. Very British, which is appropriate cuz that's what she be, British! Jessie attended a performing arts school as a child and apparently rocked it because she soon found herself appearing on stage in Andrew Lloyd Weber's musical Whistle Down the Wind at age 11. She's had health problems since she was a child, suffering from an irregular heartbeat that ultimately resulted in her having a minor stroke at age 18. YIKES! Because of this, she does not drink or smoke cigarettes. I'd personally rather have a series of small strokes than give up alcohol, but to each her own. She got her start in pop music writing tracks for other artists, including Miley Cyrus and Chris "Beat-her-down" Brown. Jessie opened for Cyndi Lauper on the UK stretch of Bring Ya To the Brink tour in 2008 while signed to Gut Records. That label folded before Jessie was able to release any music though. After working on an album for 6 years, Jessie signed with Island Records and finally released her debut single in late 2010 in the UK. Do It Like a Dude, the hard hitting, girl power single, shot to #2 on the British charts and got people talking. The next song, Price Tag, released in January 2011, was an even bigger hit, topping the chart. It's currently climbing the charts here in the US due to her fantastic appearance on SNL. The album, Who You Are, was released February 25th in the UK and is sitting at #2, just behind the apparently unbeatable Adele. Jessie J is an open bisexual, stating in an interview, "I've never denied it. Whoopie-doo guys, yes, I've dated girls and I've dated boys - get over it." Okay. Concider it done. I am a little infatuated with Jessie right now. The album is FANTASICRAZEBALLS!!!! Who You Are is set for release in the US on April 12th. Until then, watch the videos for Do It Like a Dude and Price Tag below. FUN!!! Does that give you a clearer idea about her?

MUSIC REVIEW: JESSIE J. - WHO YOU ARE

There have been quite a few female singers coming form the UK over the last few years: Amy Winhouse, Lily Allen, Duffy, Leona Lewis. Three of those four had an old-school feel about them and one was like Mariah before the weight gain. Now comes Jessie J. This girl is what you would get if you threw Lily Allen in a blender with Rihanna. Sassy, old-shcool, funky, hip-hop diva. Jessie has already hit it big in the UK with her debut album, Who You Are, scoring two top 10 singles: Do It Like a Dude (#2) and Price Tag (ft. B.o.B.) (#1). Her album is set for release in the US on April 12th, but I got it and I'm telling you it is sass-tastic. Price Tag is currently sitting at #78 on the Hot 100, so I need not tell you how catchy it is, but what I CAN tell you is it's not the best song on the album. That award, IMO, goes to the song I Need This, a Rihanna-worthy ballad with drums that will kill ya. It's got hit written all over it. There's a lot of retro-feel on the disc, like Nobody's Perfect and Abracadabra, but it doesn't come off as a one-trick pony. Ms. J's vocals are spot on, delivering power and emotion with the best of the divas past and present. Who's Laughing Now is a classic tell-you-off number, Big White Room and Who You Are are beautiful and Do It Like a Dude has crunchy guitars rockin' a fat beat. You really have to pick this one up ASAP. FUN FACT: Jessie J wrote Party in the U.S.A. for Miley Cyrus, but I won't hold that against her. Ha. She has also written songs for Justin Timeberlake, Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys. Work, girl!! ALSO, watch her this weekend on SNL with host Zach Galifanakis. Here's Price Tag (ft. B.o.B.) for you to enjoy this morning.

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND POLICE RAISE GAY FLAG IN SUPPORT OF INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA

The police in Manchester, England are amazy!!! In support and recognition of the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO), the officeers at Chester House, lead by Assistant Chief Constable Terry Sweney, raised the rainbow flag outside the station. MenMedia reports:
"Assistant Chief Constable Terry Sweeney raised the rainbow flag at Chester House, the Greater Manchester Police HQ, saying there was 'still a great deal of prejudice to be tackled'. The Union Jack remained in place on the second flagpole outside the building in Old Trafford. It is the second year GMP hoisted the flags. Mr Sweeney said: “This shows Greater Manchester Police's commitment to ensuring everyone can feel safe in Greater Manchester. We know from the number incidents there is still a great deal of prejudice to be tackled, but we are determined to show our support for anyone who feels they have been targeted by hate crime. Our support for events such as Gay Pride and IDAHO demonstrates this commitment. I also feel that in terms of tackling homophobia within the force we have made great strides in recent years and our culture has changed for the better over the 10 or 20 years. What we want is for people to come to work and be themselves."

Wow! The officers in the United States could certainly take some training from their British counterparts. Here it is sometimes a fight just to get a hate crime recognized. Manchester sounds like my kinda place. [source and image]

SUSAN BOYLE IS ROLLING IN DOUGH, BUT NOT BAKER'S DOUGH THIS TIME.

SuBo has sold a lot of albums. I know, it's amazing that a semi-good, frumpy, mentally fragile woman could sell millions of albums simply because people pity her, but it's true. Blah, blah I'm mean, blah. blah. Since the release of her debut album I Dreamed a Dream, which has sold 8.5 million copes globally (what?) Scottish housefrau Boyle has supposedly been living on an allowance from Simon Cowell, who helped discover her on Britain's Got Talent. Well now Boyle is set to receive her first big check for her work and it's reportedly in the amount of $6 million! She is set to get the cash on her 49th birthday, April 1st. Good for her, I guess. What do you think she'll do with the money?

LADY GAGA SCARES CROWS IN THE UK

WHAT? This is pretty funny. Nigel Britten, a British farmer, has decided to take Gaga's artistry to the next level by fashioning a scarecrow to look like the pop diva. The Daily Mail is reporting:
"Said farmer Nigel Britten: "My fiancee Marti joked that I should make a scarecrow which looked like her. I laughed and then it occurred to me it was actually a very good idea...And Mr Britten said that so far, the 7ft tall Lady GaGa scarecrow, complete with shocking white wig made from cotton wool and dress, is keeping birds off his wheat crops which are used to grow Hovis bread. And he said that he thinks the effective design should grace many more fields across the UK."

I love it and I bet Gaga would love it to. Maybe she'll write a a song about! [source and image]

NEW ROBBIE WILLIAMS VIDEO: MORNING SUN

Robbie Williams is back with another song and video from his excellent Reality Killed the Video Star album. Morning Sun blasts Robbie off into space to the slow, melancholy tune that "blasts off" itself into a great crescendo. Pretty great song and, of coures, Robbie is about as cute as can be.

LILY ALLEN PERFORMANCE AT THE BRIT AWARDS

CUTE!!! I heart Lily and she did an adorable performance of The Fear at the BRIT Awards earlier this week. Lily won the award for Best British Female and I couldn't agree more. She is sassy, brash, talented and funny. Her music and lyrics are top notch and she puts on a great live show. I saw her at Roseland last year (hence the pic. Yes. I said "hence"). GAY RUGBY PLAYER HAS A COMING OUT PARTY

Gay Irish rugby player Gareth Thomas came out of the closet a while ago, but now it's official! He is starting to entertain!!!! The big, beefy, bear was formerly married and the first rugby player to come out publicly in Great Britain. At a party on Thursday at a glitzy club in London Thomas hosted many celebrities including Will Young and Graham Norton, and also many of his teammates and supporters, at the coming out party. Gareth announced, "Everybody here tonight is celebrating that the world is changing. We are here to send the message that it's OK to be a sportsman and it is also OK to be gay." Nice! It's so great to see a big, burly sportsman like Thomas come out publicly. It gives a new face and understanding to people who thought they knew what gay was. British gay activist Peter Tatchell added, "If more top-class professional sportspeople came out as Gareth has done they would win huge amounts of public respect for their honesty and courage. It would boost their public standing and provide a very powerful and positive role model for young lesbian, gay and bisexual people who are coming to terms with their sexuality for the first time." Thomas has started campaigning for gay rights based on the overwhelmingly positive reaction he has received from the public. Go big gay beefy rugby player. Go! [source]
