LANA DEL REY GETS SCREWED OUT OF AN OSCAR NOM AGAIN. BOO.

Good thing Lana Del Rey has all that money to keep her warm, otherwise she'd be shivering in a pool of her own tears this morning. The songstress was thought to be a shoe-in for a Best Original Song nomination at the Oscars this year, but alas, just like last year, she has been snubbed. Boo, Oscars!! Last year she should have been nominated for Young and Beautiful from The Great Gatsby, but NOOOoooOOOooo!!! Now this year her stirring contribution of the title song to Time Burton's Big Eyes has been passed over. COME ONE, ACADEMY!!! Let her feel her oats!! I'm sure the Oscar will end up in the hands of Golden Globe winners Common and John Legend for their weird song from Selma, but Lana was ROBBED, I SAY!! I hope that her Golden Globes dress didn't ruin her chances. You can check out all the Oscar nominations HERE if you are interested, but since Lana's not on it, what's the fucking point? THROWBACK THURSDAY: FLASHDANCE SOUNDTRACK

What a feelin'!!!!! 1983 was a stellar year for music all around, but if you ask me -- and you didn't -- I would have to say the year was stolen by the soundtrack to a little film I like to call Flashdance. Well, the reason I like to call it that is because it was the name of the film, so..... ANYHOOZERS! Flashdance, and  its star Jennifer Beals, were a phenomenon. It changed the way movies were made, the way soundtracks were marketed to sell a film and was the first film to use MTV as a major marketing tool. Giorgio Moroder (and supervisor Phil Ramone) compiled a veritable who's who of the music industry and put together an unforgettable soundtrack with two #1 singles on its tracklisting. Flashdance....What a Feeling by Irene Cara is arguably the best dance song of the 80s or any other era. It shot to #1 on the Hot 100 on May 28, 1983 and stayed there for six weeks, garnering both a Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Original Song. Maniac by Michael Sembello was released as the second single and hit #1 on September 10, 1983 and spent two weeks at the top spot. Maniac was also nominated for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards that year. Though no other singles were released from the album for various reasons, several songs enjoyed airplay on MTV with promotional videos, like Donna Summer's Romeo, and the soundtrack itself was nominated for a Grammy for Album of the Year and won one for Best Album of Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or Television Special. It went on to sell over 6 million copies in the US. Other top artists of the time who appeared on the album were Kim Carnes, Laura Branigan and Joe Esposito. I would say the highlight of the album for me -- and what else matters -- are Shandi's He's a Dream and Karen Kamon's Manhunt (which is the third video below and it will blow your mind). Those songs ROCK!!! And DO NOT get me started on Cynthia Rhodes who is the goddess of 80s dance movies (see Staying Alive and Dirty Dancing). Seriously, Flashdance is one of my favorite movies of all time and one of the MAIN reasons I became a dancer. The movie and the soundtrack are sexy, flashy and made for the MTV generation. WHY I THOUGHT JODIE FOSTER'S SPEECH AT THE GOLDEN GLOBES WAS BEAUTIFUL AND RIGHT ON

(Video of full speech at the end of this post) Jodie Foster won the Cecil B. DeMille award last night at the Golden Globes for her lifetime achievement in the field of entertainment. After a weird, insider-joke filled intro by Robert Downey, Jr. and a wonderful montage of Foster's 47-year career in Hollywood, Jodie took the stage and gave a speech that, in my opinion, was a much-needed, honest and emotional look at what we, as a society, expect from public figures today. Foster didn't come out because, as she pointed out, she came out "1,000 years" ago. She had lived as a gay woman with her family and friends and people she had "actually met" for years. She even thanked her former partner for an extended period of time, not just last night, but FIVE YEARS AGO while receiving a Women in Entertainment award. Yes, Jodie Foster talked publicly about being a lesbian in 2007. Anyway....the fact that Foster never said "I am gay" or "I am a lesbian" is totally and completely irrelevant to me. We all knew what she was talking about, right? Hasn't everyone gay person, people who follow entertainment or people with heads known that Jodie Foster was gay since the 80s? I mean, really? She's not exactly the modern-day Marilyn Monroe, is she? Now, a few of the points Jodie was making didn't seem to make sense to people.....inexplicably.  I'll focus on one. Why reference Honey Boo Boo? Well, the whole point of the speech, as I understood it, is that "entertainment" as it stands now is all about train wreck reality and/or whores who get famous for making amateur porn. What Jodie and everyone else being honored in that room last night do is not the same thing. They don't need you to know every aspect of their life because it actually plays against what they do. Does Meryl Streep call a news conference every time she has sex or makes a life decision? No. It's none of my bee's wax. That's why we can see her play anything without a pre-conceived notion of who or what that character is already. Would Jodie Foster have been allowed to play all the roles she played if the public in general had known that she was a lesbian? Sadly, probably not. Not in the 80s or 90s for sure. Probably not even now. Yes, that sucks. But what Jodie Foster was saying last night was basically, I'm gay, but it's none of your business. I'm not going to argue with that. I don't know Jodie's life or Jodie's mental state or Jodie's anything. Maybe it would have been psychologically damaging for her to come out as a young person. Maybe she had financial responsibilities that she had to prioritize. Maybe lots of things. Who knows? Sure, it would have been great for you or someone else if Jodie Foster, double Academy Award winner, had come out in 1992, but is she obligated to do what's best for you? And now that she has been more open, vulnerable and human than she has ever let herself appear off-screen in her career, are we as a community going to dismiss and ridicule her for it? Is that where we are? If so, I'm not joining us there. I think Jodie's speech was moving, funny (I'm 50!), honest, brazen and, above all and perhaps most importantly, human. Again, this is my personal opinion. I know that brave men and women fought for the rights that we as a gay community enjoy today. We are still fighting now, but I am not going to deny others' right to privacy at the expense of my personal happiness. You're not impressed by Jodie's speech? You don't care or think it's too little, too late? Good. Stop talking about it then and let those who are moved or inspired by it take what they want from it. IF you really don't care. I have a feeling you do. She was clearly nervous and vulnerable. I think Jodie was brave and lovely. I'll leave off with my favorite part of Jodie's speech, and the most relevant to what I'm writing about in this blog. I think this sums it up quite nicely. "If you had been a public figure from the time that you were a toddler. If you'd had to fight for a life that felt real and honest and normal against all odds, then maybe you too what value privacy above all else."

MADONNA FRIDAY: MADONNA'S TWO GOLDEN GLOBE/OSCAR SONGS

In honor of the Golden Globes this weekend and the Oscar nominations being announced yesterday, here are a couple of movie classics associated with our beloved Queen of Pop. Madonna has performed (but not always written) several songs that have been nominated for and/or won Best Original Song at the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. Among them was Sooner of Later from the motion picture Dick Tracy. Written by Stephen Sondheim, the song won the Oscar in 1991 but lost the Golden Globe to Blaze of Glory by Jon Bon Jovi. Madonna performed the song at the Oscars that year in full Marilyn mode and brought down the mutha f***in' house, y'all!! The next song struck gold twice. Andrew Lloyd Webber penned a new song for the film version of Evita, You Must Love Me, and it won Best Original Song at the Golden Globes and the Oscars in 1997. Madonna performed the song at the Oscars that year as well. Here are both of the performaces by Madonna. Madonna was also nominated (but didn't perform) in 1988 for Who's That Girl (Golden Globe), 1993 for This Used To Be My Playground (Golden Globe), 1995 for I'll Remember (Golden Globe), in 2000 for Beautiful Stranger (Golden Globe), 2003 for Die Another Day (Golden Globe) and WON in 2012 for Masterpiece (Golden Globe). MADONNA FORGIVES ELTON JOHN, DEDICATES SONG TO HIM

Madonna has once again taken the high road when it comes to Elton John's constant barrage of insults toward her. Sort of... Elton recently trashed Madonna in interviews, calling her a fairground stripper", and of course infamously insulted her at the Golden Globes this past year saying she didn't have a "f*cking chance" of winning. She won, he didn't. Madonna has mostly not responded to any attack from Elton, but in her concert in Nice, France Tuesday night Madonna reportedly forgave Elton John telling the crowed he is a big fan of hers. What song did she dedicate to Sir Elton? Masterpiece, her Golden Globe winning song from the film W.E. HAHAHAHA!! Don't try to out-bitch Madonna. You will LOSE! I love my girl.

JUST BECAUSE: TILDA SWINTON

I'm sorry, but of two things I am sure. 1) Tilda Swinton was ROBBED of an Oscar nomination this year. She was absolutely brilliant in We Need to Talk About Kevin. GENIUS!! And 2) she is the Alien Fashion Queen of the Universe! I love everything that Tilda wears to these stuffy-ass awards shows and I don't care what anyone else thinks. She is weird and dresses accordingly. I think she looks fantastic; pale, frail, slightly mussed. I wouldn't change a thing. I know people disagree, but she's one person who I always look forward to seeing on the red carpet, which makes it DOUBLY sad she was ignored by the Academy this year. ELTON JOHN'S HUBBY APOLOGIZES FOR RIDICULOUS RANT AGAINST MADONNA

Of course he did. It can only hurt Elton's fanbase, so his husband David Furnish, apologized for all the vile shiz he spewed about Queen Madonna after she wiped the floor with Elton at the Golden Globes by winning Best Original Song for Masterpiece from her upcoming film W.E. David took to his favorite platform, Facebook, to kneel at Madonna's feet, saying:

"Wow! What a tempest in a teapot. My comments regarding The Golden Globes have been blown way out of proportion. My passion for our film "Gnomeo & Juliet" and belief in Elton's song really got my emotional juices going.
But I must say for the record that I do believe Madonna is a great artist, and that Elton and I wish her all the best for next week's premiere of the film 'W.E.'"

First of all, good for you for apologizing. BUT how were his comments "blown way out of proportion"? What he said was stupid and childish so they got reported in the press. Case closed. As long as he admits he's a douche-hole, I'm satisfied. Long live The Queen.

LIZ SMITH WEIGHS IN ON WHY ELTON JOHN & HUSBAND ARE SO BITTER

Liz Smith, the Grand Dame of Dish, has responded to the beef that Elton John & his husband, what's his face, have with Madonna and her winning the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for her ballad Masterpiece. Liz writes, in the Chicago Tribune, a fair column about the going's on of recent and it's worth a read. I think she makes some pretty good points.

"IT'S REDUCTIVE." Those two words, uttered by Madonna, in response to ABC's Cynthia McFadden's question about a Lady Gaga song, has "gone viral," as they say. Even better, when McFadden, who certainly knows what the word means, asked Madonna to define it, Madonna coyly said, "Look it up!" Apparently, a lot of people have. Now, I keep hearing the word, generally accompanied with a laugh and a reference to the pop icon. Madonna has taught us much over the years, now she's revived a word rarely used. (Well, I've always said if Madonna hadn't gone into music, she would have stayed in Michigan and become Miss Ciccone, the stern English teacher.) It was this benign answer about Gaga that became part of Elton John/David Furnish's attack on Madonna, after she won a Golden Globe for best original song on Sunday night. The song is titled "Masterpiece" from her coming film, "W.E." (Elton's effort was "Hello, Hello" from the flop animated movie "Gnomeo and Juliet.") Aside from ripping Madonna's song, the pair declared -- on Twitter and Facebook -- that Madonna's "attack" on Gaga "shows how desperate she really is." Goodness, I didn't get that at all. Madonna has no inclination to trash Gaga. But she is certainly within her rights to imply, gently, that Lady G has appropriated some aspects of her image, sound and message. Music critics were the first, in fact, to point out the similarities between Gaga's "Born This Way" and Madonna's "Express Yourself." Elton John, who has been a star since 1970, feels he has earned the right to be perennially cranky and opinionated. Fine. And he does wonderful charity work. But I think Madonna, who has been a star since 1983, has earned the right to answer a question honestly, from her point of view ... or to accept an award, if she wins one. Elton has had a bee in his bonnet about Madonna for years. At various times he has criticized her singing, dancing and even her right to be a star. She has rarely responded. In this case, however, it is Elton who appears to be "desperate." Back in the day, Madonna could be ungracious and careless in her remarks, but I never recall her attacking another performer in this manner, or publicly declaring she should have won an award instead of somebody else. (Perhaps she learned her lesson when, in the midst of a wave of positive reviews and publicity for "Evita" -- and a Golden Globe win, she said she thought she deserved to be nominated for an Oscar, too. The Academy was not amused.) The truth is, most of the public has never heard either Elton or Madonna's song. Why carry on so?Oh, "reductive"? It means something is the same, only less."

ELTON LIKES MADONNA ENOUGH TO COVER HER SONGS APPARENTLY

Despite what he says, it seems Elton does admire Madonna's back catalogue. Here is a post from May 2010 that I did for proof.

Yep, before he and his husband started spitting venom towards the Queen of Pop, Elton used two of her biggest songs to entertain a crowd. Granted these are not songs that Madonna wrote, but they are still solely identified with her. Ha. I'm sure Elton feels like an asshole for his inaccurate prediction about Madonna and that mouthy bitch of a husband of his hasn't made a peep today, so once again, MADONNA WINS!!!!

Ricky Gervais was funny, most of the speeches were not too long and almost everyone looked pretty damn good! Kate Beckinsale might be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen by the way. Okay. Despite what Elton John and his a**hole husband, what's his name, say, this win makes perfect sense. I'm not going to reiterate the horrible statements that were made against my beloved Madonna, so you can click on that link and read it for yourself. Sour grapes! I was so glad to see Meryl win, but my prediction is that Viola Davis will take the Oscar. I haven't see Iron Lady, but Davis was wonderful in The Help. She's amazing. Michelle Williams gave a wonderfully graceful acceptance speech as well and looked lovely.  I'm totally rambling now, so I'll go. GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATIONS ARE HERE!!!

Hot on the heels of the SAG Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press announces this year's nominees for the coveted, if not totally rigged, Golden Globes!!! FINALLY KRISTEN WIIG GETS COME LOVE, PEOPLE!!!! She could even win if the stars are aligned. Probably not. Glad to see Bridesmaids nominated in the Best Picture, Comedy/Musical group. However, I am appalled that The Good Wife is not nominated for Best TV Series, Drama. WTF is that? That show is quite possibly the most well written and acted show on television and for it not to be nominated makes this show look pretty stupid, IMHO. OH, and Madonna got a nod for her song from W.E. Masterpiece in the Best Original Song category. Yay!! Anyway...... Okay, check out the noms below. My picks, if I have one, are in BOLD.

GOOD NEWS: NO SEQUEL FOR PRETTY WOMAN, SAYS JULIA ROBERTS

One of the most beloved movies of all time (in my opinion) Pretty Woman will never see a sequel, says it's star Julia Roberts. Moviehole.net asked the actress about a follow up to the smash hit to which Julia replied, ""Nobody wants to see an old hooker. It's not that I'm anti-romantic comedy, which, for some reason, is always the favoured interpretation. I like being funny, I like being romantic... but it's challenging trying to find a script which is original or interesting." Nicely put, Julia. And you're right, nobody wants to see an old hooker, so would you pass that news on to Angelina Jolie? SNAP! It's good that Julia doesn't look back, only ahead. CHLOE SEVIGNY PLAYS A POLYGAMIST, BUT DONT' GET IT TWISTED

Chloe Sevigny won a well-deserved Golden Globe for her role on Big Love, a show about a polygamous sect of a ficitional Mormon family, but she wants you to know she is NOT in favor of that shizz. She is hoping that the show and her win will put a big ol' spotlight on the damages that the polygamous lifestyle can cause. In an interview after her win for best actress she told Daily Variety, " "These women are kept extremely repressed. They should be helped. They don't even know who the president of the United States is." [source][image]

JULIA ROBERTS: HILARIOUS DRUNK MESS AT THE GOLDEN GLOBES

At least she only embarrased herself on the red carpet. AND she was with Billy Bush, so how bad could she look, right? Julia apparently boozed it up real good before walking the celeb line, because by the time she got to Billy, she was tanked and hanging all over Tom Hanks. The best line is at the end when she says, "who's Natalie?" Watch and see......

GOLDEN GLOBES

I had so much fun watching the Golden Globes last night!! Sat around drinking, having food and tweeting with some other bitchy gays about all the celebs. Fun!!! I was especially happy about Meryl Streep winning for best actress comedy and about Mo'Nique getting supporting actress. Toni Collette won a well deserved award for TV actress: comedy and Julianna Margulies for drama as well. If you don't watch The Good Wife, you really should. It's kinda great. Michael C. Hall won for Dexter as did John Lithgow. Dexter had a super season and both of them rocked my world. Drew Barrymore won a Globe for Grey Gardens, which also won for mini-series. A highlight of the night for me was Cher debuting her newest face. She looked so amazing I almost went into seizures!!! Glee won for TV comedy, which I was elated about. The Oscar race is probably coming down to two women for best actress. Meryl won a globe for comedy and her competition is apparently going to be Sandra Bullock, who won for drama. Interesting. I haven't seen The Blind Side yet, but I guess I will have to now. Robert Downey, Jr. and Jeff Bridges took home the top actor prizes, comedy and drama respectively. Avatar was named best picture. Let's see how all this pans out at the Oscars. Should be a good one this year. OH, Ricky Gervais was hilarious too!!! For a full list of winners click here.
