NEW KYLIE + GARIBAY EP: FIRST SINGLE, BLACK AND WHITE

Kylie Minogue has teamed up with producer Fernando Garibay before. The pair released an EP in 2014 titled Sleepwalker that had some enchanting songs. Today the duo has surprised fans with a new EP simply called Kylie + Garibay and dropped a video for the single Black and White featuring Shaggy. Yes, THAT Shaggy. The song is a lovely, languid dance track that keeps the Shaggy to a minimum, so don't worry. Ha. The full EP (available now on iTunes) is three songs and includes a duet with Sam Sparro and a track featuring Giorgio Moroder. The black and white (appropriate) video was shot by Kylie's friend Katerina Jebb and Kylie has this to say about it:
"There are certain things you will only do with or for your friends. When Katerina Jebb said she wanted to make a film of me like an old fashioned home movie in a tassel bikini, I knew we would produce something which speaks volumes of our friendship.  As best friends for over twenty five years, we have seen a lots of ups and downs.  This, however, was a moment to celebrate life and freedom and just let go.  No pressure, just love.  I admire her not only as an amazing individual, but her art and aesthetic is singular and beautiful."

REVIEW AND ALBUM SAMPLER: GIORGIO MORODER - DÉJÀ VU

Giorgio Moroder, uber legendary producer, is back with his first album in 30...count them....30 years! And it is shockingly fresh and forward sounding. With guests like Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, Sia, Charlie XCX, Kelis and more, Moroder brings his signature electro-sound that he basically created with his work with Donna Summer in the mid-70s and his Academy award winning soundtrack work on Flashdance and Top Gun in the 80s and updates them to great effect for your ear holes. Right Here, Right Now (ft. Kylie), the title track with Sia, Back and Forth (ft. Kelis) and his cover of Tom's Diner with Britney are all absolute joys!!!! MADONNA FRIDAY: FUTURE LOVERS/I FEEL LOVE FROM THE CONFESSIONS TOUR

My favorite opening number to my favorite concert of all time. Madonna's 2006 Confessions Tour was an absolute feast for the eyes and ears and it opened with a bang. Future Lovers also was a standout track on her amazing Confessions On A Dance Floor album and the perfect song to set the tone for the tour and, as an added bonus, Madge mixes it seamlessly with the classic Donna Summer/Giorgio Moroder track I Feel Love. I Feel Love is the precursor to all modern EDM/dance music that we know and love, so it was a no brainer. The mix is brilliant and her entrance to the stage is something to see. The concert film (available on iTunes HERE and SOOOOOO worth purchasing/renting) actually does a great job capturing the feel of the live show. NEW VIDEO: DEJA VU - GIORGIO MORODER FT. SIA

I've already introduced you to the excellent track Déjà Vu from Giorgio Moroder's upcoming album of the same name. Now here is equally excellent and dramatic video for the track. Love this song and the clip lives up to the feel of the track. Sia, of course, is by in the video (quit hiding girl!!!) but her trademark wig makes a very effective appearance....a lot, as does Moroder himself as a limo driver.  Enjoy Déjà Vu. Giorgio Moroder, legendary Grammy and Academy Award winning producer/musician is coming out with his first studio album in 30 years, Deja Vu, and her is the title track with Sia. THE #1 SONG 35 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS...

.....Call Me by Blondie. With music and production by famed Italian producer Giorgio Moroder and lyrics by Debbie Harry, Call Me became Blondie's biggest hit ever!! Moroder was interested in writing with Stevie Nicks when approached about songs for the Richard Gere film American Gigolo (the one where he shows his junk), but Nicks was unavailable due to label conflict, so fate steered him toward Blondie. They made a little chart history together, turns out. Call Me hit #1 on April 19, 1980 and remained for six weeks, becoming the biggest hit of 1980. It would go on to be #44 on Billboard Top 100 of ALL TIME,  and at last count was #283 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Call them, indeed! The video features a cabbie that appeared in other Blondie videos riding around NYC being cabbie-like. Anyhoo, here is the #1 song from 30 years ago today, Blondie's Call Me.

LADY GAGA STUNS AT THE OSCARS WITH 'SOUND OF MUSIC' MEDLEY

I always knew she had it in her. Lady Gaga glided onto the Oscar stage last night and gave a career defining performance of a medley to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Sound of Music. Dropping all costumes and gimmicks and relying solely on her beautiful voice, Gaga not only hit the notes but gave a wonderfully emotional performance of the classic show tunes. Dame Julie Andrews herself came out on stage after and approved of Gaga's performance. Doesn't get much better than that, now does it? Lady Gaga is currently working on the follow up to 2013's ARTPOP with former collaborator RedOne and disco legend Giorgio Moroder. Can't wait!!! Check out the lovely performance below.

Legendary producer Giorogio Moroder (Donna Summer, Irene Cara, Blondie) is coming back with a new album this year called 74 is the New 24. Clever. The first single from that upcoming project is a dico-fied ditty with none other than Kylie Minogue herself. Who better to sing on a dance track than one of the sexiest modern day disco divas? It's a tasty confection that will have you shaking your groove thing. Take a listen to Right Here, Right Now and try not to move to it. You can get the song on iTunes. THROWBACK THURSDAY: FLASHDANCE SOUNDTRACK

What a feelin'!!!!! 1983 was a stellar year for music all around, but if you ask me -- and you didn't -- I would have to say the year was stolen by the soundtrack to a little film I like to call Flashdance. Well, the reason I like to call it that is because it was the name of the film, so..... ANYHOOZERS! Flashdance, and  its star Jennifer Beals, were a phenomenon. It changed the way movies were made, the way soundtracks were marketed to sell a film and was the first film to use MTV as a major marketing tool. Giorgio Moroder (and supervisor Phil Ramone) compiled a veritable who's who of the music industry and put together an unforgettable soundtrack with two #1 singles on its tracklisting. Flashdance....What a Feeling by Irene Cara is arguably the best dance song of the 80s or any other era. It shot to #1 on the Hot 100 on May 28, 1983 and stayed there for six weeks, garnering both a Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Original Song. Maniac by Michael Sembello was released as the second single and hit #1 on September 10, 1983 and spent two weeks at the top spot. Maniac was also nominated for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards that year. Though no other singles were released from the album for various reasons, several songs enjoyed airplay on MTV with promotional videos, like Donna Summer's Romeo, and the soundtrack itself was nominated for a Grammy for Album of the Year and won one for Best Album of Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or Television Special. It went on to sell over 6 million copies in the US. Other top artists of the time who appeared on the album were Kim Carnes, Laura Branigan and Joe Esposito. I would say the highlight of the album for me -- and what else matters -- are Shandi's He's a Dream and Karen Kamon's Manhunt (which is the third video below and it will blow your mind). Those songs ROCK!!! And DO NOT get me started on Cynthia Rhodes who is the goddess of 80s dance movies (see Staying Alive and Dirty Dancing). Seriously, Flashdance is one of my favorite movies of all time and one of the MAIN reasons I became a dancer. The movie and the soundtrack are sexy, flashy and made for the MTV generation.
