HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MISS GRACE JONES

Grace Jones has been giving us life since the days of Studio 54, and today she turns 67! The model/singer/actress/fashion icon and all around crazy person is one of the last surviving and thriving icons of the glittery disco era still kicking it with the avant garde. Jones was born May 19, 1948 in Spanish Town, Jamaica before moving to New York at 13. From there she took the modeling world by storm, eventually moving into a career as a singer, then an actress. She appeared in such films as the camp classic horror Vamp, the Bond film A View To A Kill, Conan The Destroyer and Boomerang. Her biggest hits include her silky disco cover of La Vie En Rose, her ode to butt sex Pull Up To the Bumper and the amazing and classic Slave To The Rhythm. This bitch is FIERCE! Below are some fun videos of Grace, including her performing Slave To The Rhythm for The Queen of England at her Jubilee celebration while.....well.....just watch. She was 64 at the time. Keep that in mind. The last video is of what I consider to be Grace's masterpiece, Williams Blood, a song about the history of her family from her 2008 album Hurricane, written with Wendy & Lisa.  Anyhooo.......Happy birthday, Grace!!!

Not much to say about this except when is the last time you saw a 64 year-old woman hula-hoop for four-and-a-half minutes? WHILE SINGING?? The legendary Ms. Grace Jones took the stage at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert to sing her classic hit Slave to the Rhythm and showed off some serious skills at the same time. Always bringing something unexpected. You go, Grace!! Watch in awe...

NEW RIHANNA VIDEO: YOU DA ONE

I love this song. Ever since I bought RiRi's new album, Talk That Talk, I have been obsessed with You Da One. It's bright and sunny and fun. yay!! Well, here is the video for the single and it's dark and crotch-centric with a dash of Grace Jones in Vamp and A Clockwork Orange. I don't like the video as much as the song and certainly not as much as the AMAZY video for We Found Love, but any excuse to listen to the song is A-okay with moi. So without further adieu, here is You Da One.

Grace Jones, legendary disco freak and old school Studio 54 maven is 63 today! Grace is truly a one-of-a-kind lady, always saying and doing something shocking, even after all these years. Her last album, Hurricane, saw her back to making records in fine form. Here's to many more years of zaniness!! Happy birthday, Grace! Enjoy yourself some Grace below.
