It's considered one of the greatest duets in pop music history and certainly started Cher's road to superstardom. GAY HOLIDAY!!! The beloved, magnificent, glorious, talented, funny, genius goddess Cher is 68 today!!! I just saw Cher here in NYC on the 9th and she was absolutely every-fucking-thing!! I mean, you cannot keep a good diva down. Did you know that Cher is the only artist to date to have a number-one single on a Billboard chart in each of the past SIX DECADES??? GIRL! No signs of stopping, Cher even talked about her next tour during her show. She was spectacular, y'all! I uploaded a very short little clip of her floating above her fans HERE that you can take a look at. Cher has won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival, among several other honors. Without a doubt, Cher is one of the successful entertainers of all time, loved by generations of music and movie lovers. She's a living legend. 5th ANNUAL AMAZY MUSIC AWARDS: SINGLES 20-16

And now to the good stuff. Here is the first of four posts I will do to break down my top 20 songs of 2013. What a year it was. Plenty of one hit wonders racking it up this year and many legendary artists contributing some very fine singles to their already great cannon of hits. I base this on my personal playlist, the number of times I listened to the songs, the way they moved me, the memories attached to them and, of course, their amaziness. The first installment is notable for having not one, not two, but THREE drag queens represent!! Not to shabby. There is also a creepy but catchy date rape anthem, a living legend and one of the best musical groups of all time. Here we go with numbers 20 through 16. Enjoy.

THE FIFTH ANNUAL AMAZY MUSIC AWARDS: TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2013

I can't believe this is the fifth year end countdown I have done on this blog! Here we are again, the end of another year of music. What a year it's been. We learned a lot about hype, humility and coming in just under the wire to blow 'em all away, didn't we? I wouldn't say that this year was a particularly strong one for albums. There were plenty of singles that hit, but not all of those artists were able to deliver on the one-hit hype. These albums, in my estimation, were the most enjoyable front to back. I could sit and listen to them and they evoked a mood or a curiosity with each track. These artists were able to transcend in some ways the "just get a hit on the radio" vibe that artists are mostly after these days. They have that something extra special. Without further ado, here are my picks for the top 10 albums of 2013.

10. Electric - Pet Shop Boys - Seminal electronic group Pet Shop Boys came back this year with a brand new album, Electric and it's a damn shame that everyone was going gaga over Daft Punk (even though I really like their album too) because Electric is a much more diverse, fun set. Plenty of club tracks, like the opener Axis, along with some classic Pet Shop Boys melodies, like the delicious Thursday. The Boys were back with a vengeance and the whole album pulses with the perfect blend of what we've always loved of PSB and what is yet to come.

09. Britney Jean - Britney Spears - Hyped as Britney Spears' most personal album to date, on THAT it did not deliver.  Alien and Perfume are two of her loveliest songs she's ever recorded and Work Bitch and Tik Tik Boom are sassy Brit-Brit at it's most catchy. How much of Britney is actually invested in her music is not clear anymore, but the old girl (and her production team) can still push out an album full of pop gems. Keep 'em coming, Britney. Unless you're done. Then stop. What Britney Jean does deliver on is pop hit after pop hit and a little more personality.

08. Closer to the Truth - Cher - I mean, C'MON!! It's fucking Cher, people! Cher came back after about a 12 year absence. Her last album of original music was 2001's Living Proof. Closer to Truth finds Cher in full voice and as Cher as ever. Woman's World was just the tip of the anthem-berg. Take It Like a Man and My Love are glorious in their clubbiness and should be playing everywhere anyone is doing anything. This bitch is even going on tour again. AND I'M SEEING HER!! Closer to the Truth is a real return to pop form and as welcome a return as there has ever been.

07. Overgrown - James Blake - James Blake's second full solo album is smooth, sexy, experimental, electronic, sensuous and thoughtful. That voice, those loops and beats. James takes it a step further with Overgrown after his auspicious debut two years ago with self-titled debut. Retrograde is perhaps the most mesmerizing song of the year and the whole album will hypnotize you with its quasi-futuristic sense of musicality. This 25 year old musician has many years in the spotlight ahead of him and he is pioneering something very special.

06. Prism - Katy Perry - Prism is a hodgepodge of musical tastes. It wants to draw in the biggest possible audience and I think it succeeds in its quest. There are dance anthems aplenty, sweet ballads, introspective, if not cliched, heartfelt songs. Katy is coming off of one of the most successful albums of the past decade in terms of singles, and I don't think this is going to surpass Teenage Dream, to be honest. I do think that there are many, many songs to be pulled off this album as singles and eventually they will get to them. Legendary Lovers, International Smile and Spiritual have radio hit written all over them. Roar was an undeniable success, so Katy still has it in her.

05. Pure Heroine - Lorde - The 16 year old from New Zealand hit the scene with weird dancing and deep lyrics that go beyond her years and won over the world. You can't swing a dick without hitting someone listening toRoyals. Trust me. I've tried. Ouch. The album as a whole is quite impressive in its diversity and ability to keep the listener surprised and intrigued. Tennis Court is one of the catchiest songs I heard all year and Buzzcut Season is sweet, simple and soft. Pretty much every song leaves its mark right from the first listen. It'll have you going back for repeat listening for sure. Not just a singles artist, that Lorde. I'd say it's a pretty good start.

04. Bangerz - Miley Cyrus - GIRL!! This album is good, y'all! It's a little bit country, it's a little bit hip hop, it's all Miley. We Can't Stop and Wrecking Ball are crazy good and absolute chart gold and third single, Adore, is going to take us to a new place with it's soft balladry. There is literally no limit to the amount of singles they might pull off of this mo'fo'. #GETITRIGHT, FU, My Darlin', Rooting for My Baby are all single worthy. So forget the twerking and the tongue wagging and listen tot he music. The girl can deliver a song. Bangerz places Miley in the big leagues of pop music and she almost took it over this year. Now can she keep it going?

03. Tales of Us - Goldfrapp - Ethereal, mystical, soft, breathy, sexy and smooth are all words to describe Goldfrapp and their album Tales of Us. A concept album of sorts, each song weaves a tale of a person going through various things in their life from being born in the wrong body, having an elicit affair or simply wandering through life. Goldfrapp take this sound from the 80s glam of Head First (my #1 album three years ago) and back to their amazing 2008 album Seventh Tree but this time a little darker and little less folksy. The opening of Jo with its flourish of strings, the guitar galloping through Drew, the tribal stomps of Thea and the march of the album closer Clay take you on an unforgettable journey through time and space. Goldfrapp can paint a picture with their music like no one else.

02. ARTPOP - Lady Gaga - Lady Gaga was hyped and hyped and hyped until she oversaturated the market before the release of ARTPOP and it may have turned some away from her newest offering. That is a shame because ARTPOP actually takes Gaga back to the simpler times when she was writing for the sake of the beat and the fun than for a cause. Not to say I didn't love Born This Way (my #1 pick two years ago), but ARTPOP is a lot more fun in many ways with is tongue-in-cheek subjects and fun lyrics. The title track is one of the most stunning and simple pieces I think Gaga has ever done and Applause is pure anthemic fun. Venus, Do What U Want, G.U.Y. all deserve their time in the spotlight. If she can get people to start paying attention to the music again, Gaga has still got a lot to show us.

01. Beyoncé - Beyoncé - Well, she did it. Beyoncé released a surprise album and absolutely crushed every bitch on the block. This album is everything Beyoncé is; sassy, smart, classy, sexy, and fresh. It's also things Bey usually isn't: open, real, warm and experimental. There are things we've never heard her do like the crunchingly swaggy Partition and gangster of ***Flawless. There is also pure pop candy in the form of the ode to cunnilingus Blow and the best love anthem I've heard in years XO. We have our usual, stunning Beyoncé ballads here as well with Pretty Hurts and the haunting Heaven, but we also have her very own Thriller in the heavenly Haunted. (See what I did there?) The sky is the limit and Beyoncé is reaching for it. The whole disc is packed full of perfection, including the accompanying videos, and we have a big couple of year ahead of us with this album. It's definitely earned it's position atop this years album picks. Destined to be a classic.

THE #1 SONG 40 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS....

.....Half-Breed by Cher!! Yes!!! 40 f**king years ago, Cher was already having #1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100. Having just released her latest album, Closer to the Truth, Cher has been around long enough that she taught Jesus to twerk. Back in 1973 she hit the top of the charts for the second time (first was Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves) with this ode to being mixed raced, Cher is half white and half Cherokee Indian and faces all the problems that go with it. I don't know if you could get away with using the term "Indian squaw" in a pop song these days, but it was simpler times back then. Of course, Half-Breed is a classic and a staple in Cher's cannon of hits. She performs it every chance she gets and we love it every freakin' time!!! Here is the legendary Cher, looking AMAZING, in a classic performance singing her 1973 #1 hit, Half-Breed.

REVIEW: CHER - CLOSER TO THE TRUTH

NO ONE CAN JUDGE CHER!!! I would like to start this review with that simple statement FACT. Cher is a living legend, a diva, a goddess and an American treasure. Cher is the leading cause of gay freak-outs in the world. Cher is Cher. Back with her 26th studio album, Closer To The Truth, Cher is in full dance diva mode. With a little help from Paul Oakendfeld, Timbaland (among others) on production and Pink and Bonnie McKee (among others) on songwriting, Cher has managed to once again put together a great album full of up-to-date music with that special Cher twist. (It's hard to write a single sentence in a blog about Cher without writing her name, obvi). This Cher album is in its highest gear on club bangers like first single Woman's World, album stand out Take It Like a Man (featuring Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears) and the anthemic My Love.  Cher enlists Pink's songwriting talents on stomper I Walk Alone, which comes with not only beats but banjo! Cher and a banjo. Enough said. Of course, it wouldn't be a Cher album without some good old fashioned emoting, so our lady does not disappoint with ballads like the soaring, guitar heavy Sirens,  second single I Hope You Find It and another Pink offering Lie To Me, which also features her vocals. Guys, c'mon. This is Cher. CHER! Get out there and listen to this album or I will remove your face. She's been in it to win it for all of her 67 years and you owe her. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHER! THE DIVA IS 65 TODAY

Seems like only yesterday I was rocking a 45 year-old Cher in my arms singing The Shoop Shoop Song until she fell asleep. Now she's all grown up and has two grown sons and a collection of wigs as far as the eye can see. Cher is seriously a living legend and an American treasure. Few artists have achieved and maintained the level of superstardom that Cher has around the world. For instance, she is the only artist to have a #1 hit on a Billboard chart for SIX DECADES!!! She has an Oscar too. Top that, bitches!!! Cher is 65 today. Wow. With a new album in the works (due out this year), plans to direct, and possibly another tour (sorry those of you who went to the "farwell" tour), Cher is showing absolutely no signs of stopping anytime soon. I need not bore you with all of Cher's many, many accomplishments, but I will tell you that she is about to explode back on the scene with a movie (Burlesque) and an album coming at you soon. I can't wait! Cher is truly an entertainer for all time. Happy birthday, Cher. You will live forever.

CHER PLANS TO TOUR AGAIN

Remember that two-plus year farewell tour? PSYCH! Cher is coming out of retirement to tour again. The 63 year old legend announced that she will in deed be taking her show on the road again after her stay at Caesars Palace's The Colosseum in Las Vegas comes to a close. Source say the "Believe" singer has been inspired to perform again from the work she is doing on the film and the soundtrack to her latest movie, Burlesque with Christina Aguilera. She plans to launch a new single, Already Been There, at the World Music Awards in Monte Carlo next month. Exciting!! The pics that have surfaced of Cher lately have been pretty awesome. FLASHBACK: THIS WEEK IN 1999

This week in 1999 Cher came out of nowhere to take the #1 spot on the Hot 100 with Believe. Everyone had adondoned our beloved Cher after a couple of crappy movies and an info-mercial. I didn't. I knew she could do it. I never had a doubt. Cher proved all the nay-sayers wrong when her single Believe reached the top spot and held on for four weeks. It has become one of the biggest selling singles of all time, having sold over 10 million copies worldwide. It also made Cher, 52 at the time, the oldest female artist to ever have a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and gave her the record for longest span between #1 hits (her last one was Dark Lady in 1974). Cher is apparently working on a new album now, so don't count our girl out just yet. She may come right back to the top. Enjoy Believe!

TODAY IN 1931....

The U.S. adopted the Star Spangled Banner as the national anthem. Notoriously difficult to sing well, the anthem is the highlight of all pre-games and has been sung by the best of them. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SONNY BONO

Okay, he's already dead, but if it wasn't for Sonny, we wouldn't have Cher. And where would we be without Cher. Sonny was the mastermind behind the whole Sonny & Cher shtick and the world was never the same. Sonny came to a sudden and tragic death a few years ago, but his legacy will live on through the music, television and transgendered offspring he left behind. Here is some good ol' Sonny comedy.

CHRISTINA AGUILERA TALKS ABOUT NEW ALBUM, "BIONIC"

Christina Aguilera has been out of the music scene for a while. Her last album, Back to Basics released in 2006 was a success, but sold about a quarter of what her 2002 album Stripped sold in the US. Since then, with the exception of a performance here and there and a greatest hits album with Target, Xtina has been M.I.A. Well now she is preparing her new album, Bionic, for release in March. Xtina tells Marie Claire that this album "is about the future". She is also toning down the histrionics and using a more subdued vocal on some tracks. She says her new singing style is something that "maybe I've been afraid to do in the past, to allow myself to go to a place of 'less singing. I'm more vulnerable and more strong at the same time." That should be interesting. A couple of the songs she talks about are Glam "a poppy, hip-hop inflected throwback to Madonna's 'Vogue', the "addictive title track" and an ode to her son called "Lullaby" which was written with Sia. Also working with Aguilera on her new sound is Santigold, M.I.A, Ladytron, Dr. Luke, Sam Endicott (Shakira's She Wolf), Switch and, MY FAVE....GOLDFRAPP!!!! I can't wait to hear that collab.
