ROMAN POLANSKI AGREED TO PAY HIS VICTIM.....GUESS WHAT
Roman Polanski agreed to settle his case against Samantha Geimer (the girl he drugged and raped when she was 13)by paying her the amount of $500,000 according to 1993 court documents. Polanski admitted to having sex with the child, but said it was "consensual". You can all check the law in California on that statement. This settlement was brought to light because of a two-year struggle to get the director to pay. After Polanski fled the country in 1978 before being sentenced, his violent, deplorable crime against Ms. Geimer was left unpunished. (unless you consider 42 days of psychiatric evaluation and living a life of luxury in France for 30 years punishment for raping a kid) In 1988 she filed a lawsuit against Polanski alleging sexual assault, infliction of emotional distress and seduction (sounds about right). The last court filings on the case were in 1996 stating that the amount owed was now $604,416.22. The court did not reveal if Polanski has ever paid this debt. Despite the fact that Ms. Geimer has now forgiven him and wishes to move on (it took her YEARS to come to that decision, by the way. We should ALL be as forgiving as Ms. Geimer), the LAW is quite clear about the crimes of rape and fleeing justice. Yes, MAYBE Polanski heard that the judge was going to throw him in the clink despite an agreement that was reached reducing what he was arrested for (six offenses, including rape and sodomy) to "just" having unlawful sex with a minor. I am sure that Mr. Polanski, and certainly his attorneys, were well aware that the United States has an appeals system set up for the purpose of fighting such "unfair" judiciary decisions. Tuesday, US officials said that Polanski has been on the interpol "wanted" list for years. All he has to do to put this whole ordeal behind him is show up in court and answer for what he has done. Any bum on the street has to do that, so why not Mr. Polanski?[source]
