MICHAEL JACKSON: THIS IS IT...BUT IT'S NOT NEW

The "new" song released by the estate of MJ "This Is It" is not even close to being new. The song was written and recorded in 1983 by Jackson and Paul Anka. Anka was a teen idol in the '50s and '60s and wrote such hits as Put Your Head On My Shoulder, She's a Lady (for Tom Jones) and My Way, made famous by Frank Sinatra. "This Is It" was originally titled "I Never Heard". MJ decided after recording it not to use it. The two of them had a fight ( a very high-pitched on I would imagine) and Michael kept the demos. Anka finally got them back and the song was recorded by Safire (she had a hit with Thinking of You in 1989...no, you DON'T know it, but I do.) ANYHOOOO, Anka was all WTF, THAT MY SONG! (I'm paraphrasing) He threatened to sue, but the estate agreed and is giving him 50% of the copyright to the song. Good for him. Bad for the estate. I don't know who the idiot was who missed the "co-writing" thing in the first place! Congratulations on tainting the first MJ single to come out after his death. The movie of "This Is It" comes out this month. [source] [picture source]
