SHIRLEY MANSON OF GARBAGE TAKES ON AGEISTS IN THE PRESS

Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson has never been a shrinking violet, and not much has changed. In an interview with Bullet, Manson talks about aging in the music business and really takes aim at those who think you have to stay young looking, bringing up and defending the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna. Here's what Shirley had to say:

"But I don’t want to pretend I’m young. I’m not going to play that game. I’m not going to freeze my face to sell a record. That’s a trap set for women. Madonna, she says, is the most obvious example: “The tabloids complain about her looking old, and people laugh at her for that. Then Madonna goes and fixes her face, and they laugh at her for that. Even thought they begrudgingly say she looks amazing, they’ll still laugh at her for trying to look young. Then she steps out, looking amazing, and the tabloids go and blow up a picture of her aging hand. Nobody’s doing that to George Clooney, blowing up pictures of his hands! I look at these magazines, and I want to say to them, What’s your point? That she’s aged? Does that surprise you? Or is your ‘point’ an attempt to undercut what she’s achieved? I think it is, even if it’s on a subconscious level. And you probably wouldn’t turn down those hands if they were grabbing you under the table, you fucking idiots.”

Well said, Shirley. You know, it's true. It seems that the press hate you if you get plastic surgery and hate you if you don't. Madonna and Shirley both look faboosh, so suck on that!!! Garbage is currently working on getting their next album, Not Your Kind of People, out on May 15, 2012. Can't wait for some new Garbage!!!

ADELE'S 21 CLOSING IN ON PRINCE ON THE LIST OF LONGEST RUNNING #1 ALBUMS

21 is returning to the top of the Billboard 200 Album Chart for it's 22nd week. Big surprise there. LINDSAY LOHAN'S SNL PROMOS

Not too bad, Lindsay. I'm kinda rootin' for the ol' gal. She looks a little weird, but hopefully hosting SNL means Lohan is back on the right track. Her comic timing seems to be fine. What do you think? Are you onboard for giving Lindsay a second chance? Check out the promos below.

NEW WILSON PHILLIPS ALBUM & TV SPECIAL COMING IN APRIL

Wilson Phillips are going to take advantage of the exposure they gained from Bridesmaids, y'all!! The 90s power trio will celebrate their 20th year in the music biz with the release of their first new album in eight years, Dedicated. A tribute to the groups they are most influenced by, Carnie and Wendy's dad Brian Wilson's group The Beach Boys and Chynna's parents' group The Mamas & The Papas, the album will contain a mix of hits from both bands. According to their website:
"The collection is made up entirely of classic songs by Brian Wilson's Beach Boys, father of Wendy and Carnie Wilson; and of John and Michelle Phillips' Mamas & The Papas, parents of Chynna Phillips. As the title indicates, it includes the iconic track Dedicated To The One I Love, the latter group's 1967 hit, along with other Mamas & The Papas landmark singles like California Dreamin’, Monday Monday, Twelve-Thirty and Got A Feeling. From The Beach Boys catalog are equally artful Wilson Phillips interpretations of Wouldn't It Be Nice, God Only Knows, Don't Worry Baby, In My Room and Good Vibrations."
FUN!! Their last album, California, released in 2004, was also a mix of songs they were raised on from Joni Mitchell and Neil Young to Linda Ronstadt. I can't wait for new Wilson Phillips!! Oh, and Wilson Phillips: Still Holding On Premieres April 8, 2012 on TV Guide Network. It's a documentary about the recording of the new album and what went on in the ladies' lives while they were making music. It's 1990 all over again!!!

FLASHBACK: DEBBIE GIBSON

Before Britney Spears, there was Debbie Gibson. Debbie was THE teen pop star of the 80s. Not only did Debbie sing, she wrote and produced on her albums as well. She quickly became the youngest artist to write, produce, and perform a #1 single on the Billboard hot 100 (with her song Foolish Beat) and she remains the youngest female to write, record, and perform a #1 single to date. Pretty impressive I would say. Debbie, who prefers Deborah now, racked up five top five hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including two #1s and continues to record music. She has been in several television movies and Broadway shows. I had the privilege of performing with her a few years back in a production of Gypsy and I will say she was absolutely lovely and talented and a pleasure to work with. Also, Deborah just started her season on Celebrity Apprentice. Enjoy some Debbie today, out of the blue. By the way, the last one is the little mini-movie video for Electric Youth. Watch!!!

RIHANNA FINDING KATY PERRY A MAN???? INSULTING FANS ON TWITTER.

Um...I think I'd look for help somewhere else, Katy. Having her good friend Rihanna help her find a suitable mate is like having Lindsay Lohan be your AA sponsor. A "source" says Rihanna wants to help Katy get back our there dating after her divorce from "comedian" Russell Brand. Rihanna decision making is questionable at best, wouldn't you say? Aside from befriending and ALLEGEDLY getting back together with the douche who beat her face, Rihanna has also taken to attacking the looks of young girls who criticize her on twitter. Not good, RiRi. So Katy, I would look elsewhere for a matchmaker. Maybe someone who is known for being lucky in love, like Jennifer Lopez. I kid, I kid.

LYRIC VIDEO FOR MADONNA'S NEW SINGLE, GIRLS GONE WILD

Read all about it!! Madonna has released the lyric video for Girls Gone Wild, the second single from her upcoming MDNA album, and it's all club. Very different from the bubblegum pop of Give Me All Your Luvin, GGW is written by Madonna, Benny Benassi, Alle Benassi and is all synth and attitude. Some have said this is actually a remix, but the youtube page says nothing about that. She's here to make you dance, people. Whatcha think? OH, I just noticed the name of the song on the video is GIRL Gone Wild, not "Girls". Hmmmm....

KYLIE CONTINUES HER 25 YEAR CELEBRATION: ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS

Following last months orchestra cover of her song Finer Feelings, Kylie Minogue warms up our February with her live version of her 2000 hit On a Night Like This, recorded at Abbey Road Studios. Lovely. Kylie is giving us gems all year in celebration of her 25th year as an icon in the music biz. She looks and sounds great.

WHO WON AN OSCAR?

The Academy Awards happened last night and there were some minor surprises, but mostly it was a night of Hugo and The Artists, two of the most overrated films of the last....ever. Honestly, I get the charm in both films, but Best Picture for The Artist? No. At least Hugo only won for technical awards. That I can get on board with. The only small surprise of the night came when 17 time nominee Meryl Streep actually won an Oscar she was nominated for! I love Meryl and she was FANTASTIC in The Iron Lady, but I assumed Viola Davis was going to win for The Help. Meryl never gets to win. While I think Viola Davis is just as good an actress as Meryl Streep, I still felt there was no clear LEAD actress in The Help. The story may have been anchored by Viola's character, but I thought all the roles were supporting. That's just my opinion, y'all. I am glad Meryl finally won again. It's been 30 year, people. Give that woman some props! Oh, and I wanted George Clooney to win Best Actor. I also thought Billy Crystal was pretty damn good. It was like watching the old-school Oscars when it was okay to be a little hoakey and cheesy. Good times. Oh, well. Okay. Here is a list of the big winners last night and you can go HERE for the complete list.

Best Animated Feature - Rango
Best Supporting Actress - Octovia Spencer, The Help
Best Supporting Actor - Christopher Plummer, Beginners
Best Director - Michele Hazanavicius, The Artist
Best Actor - Jean Dujardin, The Arist
Best Actress - Meryl Streep, The Iron Lady
Best Picture - The Artist

DAYS OF OUR LIVES HAS HOT GAY MAKEOUT SESSION

WOOHOO!! Days of Our Lives is getting busy on their gay storyline. It's GAYS of Our Lives in this clip. These two get down to business. I mean, there's forceful, backing-up-against-the-wall making out going on. Get it boys! Too bad I work during the day. ha. This is the first gay kiss in DOOL's 46-year history. And he's a Horton! ESCANDALO! Work!! I've exhausted my gay catchphrases. Just watch below.

MADONNA FRIDAY: HANKY PANKY

"Nothing like a good spanky". Oh, my! Madonna's 1990 album, I'm Breathless (Music from and inspired by the film Dick Tracy) has many, many gems on it, but Hanky Panky was something of a naughty standout. The album featured three songs by Broadway master composer Stephen Sondheim and the rest of the track listing was filled out mostly by songs written by Madonna and long-time collaborator Patrick Leonard. Hanky Panky is a saucy tale of a girl who enjoys a little sadism in her life. The song, like all the songs except Vogue on the album, is in the big band, Broadway, jazzy style. In short, it rocks!! No video was made for the song, but this is the performance from Madonna's legendary Blond Ambition Tour. So good you'll want a spanky yourself! Now spend the rest of the day listending to Madonna or you're a heathen. "My bottom hurts just thinking about it".

SHIT GAY GUYS DON'T SAY

Well, we mostly don't. Here is a pretty funny video on the "shit ****** say" meme. Except this time they DON'T say. See what happened there.

JUSTIN THEROUX BREAKDANCES ON ELLEN

This is 300 shades of adorable. Justin Theroux, Jennifer Aniston's main squeeze and my long time crush (remember him on Sex & the City?) was on The Ellen Degeneres Show yesterday and got challanged! After telling a cute story about Jen begging him to do some poppin' and lockin' and how he said he needed his breakin' shoes, Ellen pulls out a surprise. Watch and giggle. Not afraid to admit, kinda hot.

FLASHBACK: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HOWARD JONES!!

Does the name sound familiar? If not, some of the songs will. Howard Jones, who turns 57 today, was a MAJOR pop star in the 80s in both his native UK and the US and had a string of successful songs and albums... then went away. He was a major influence in synth-pop often combining the New Wave sound with an optimistic, 60s feel. Jones bombarded the charts with classic 80s hits like What is Love, New Song, Things Can Only Get Better, No One Is To Blame, Everlasting Love and Life in One Day. Howard still tours and records when he feels like it, but mostly we can remember him by his wonderful 80s hits. Here are some of them for you. Happy B-day, Howard!

THE #1 SONG 20 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS....

...I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred. Right Said Fred consisted of brothers Richard Fairbrass and Fred Fairbrass, and their friend Rob Manzoli. The cheeky trio formed in the late 90s and soon after hit the charts with this little number. I'm Too Sexy is a novelty song, sung from the perspective of a model that is TOO sexy for...well, everything. It caught on big time, spending three weeks at the top of the US Hot 100 in 1992. The band never recaptured chart success, but this song is a keeper for sure. It's pure, early 90s fun. Watch the boys sex it up below.

ADELE'S PERFORMANCE OF ROLLING IN THE DEEP AT THE BRIT AWARDS

...AND here is the best way to say "thank you" to her fans. Adele has won everything but a pie eating contest this year (notice her weight loss?) and she has that voice back, so she strolled on stage at the Brit Awards as if to say "AND what?". Cut to her KILLING it again with Rolling in the Deep. Go, Adele. Watch and love. What do you say, Adele for Best Picture at the Oscars? Will she win an ESPY for Breakthrough Athlete? Anything is possible.

ADELE DOES NOT LIKE GETTING CUT OFF. WATCH THIS!

Adele just won like a hepta-bajillion Grammys, so it's no huge surprise she hopped a plane, rode on over the the UK and swept the BRIT Awards as well. Upon winning Album of the Year (duh) for her smash hit 21, Adele took the stage to give her fans a big thank you, but about a split second into her speech the producers of the show decided to give HER a big F you and sent the host to cut her off. Adele gave them a gesture to mark the occasion. I love this woman even more now. OH, ANNNNDDDD, they cut her off for BLUR! Blur!!! Whatevs. Watch the lady Adele wave hello to producers. She explained afterward, "I'm sorry if I offended anyone, it was the suits that offended me." WERQ!

KATY PERRY SET FOR HUGE DIGITAL SALES, HOT 100 DEBUT NEXT WEEK

Katy Perry's new single, Part of Me, which she performed at the Grammys last week is set for a big debut on the charts next week. Neilsen is expecting the singers latest to sell somewhere around 400,000 to 420,000 digital downloads by Sunday, February 19th. That would make Part of Me the biggest debut since Lady Gaga cast her spell at the Grammys last year and moved 448,000 downloads of Born This Way. Now, Gaga actually sold all of those downloads in a mere three days, whereas Katy's total will be a week's worth. Still impressive, Katy. Now, while Katy is currently tied with Michael Jackson's record of 5 #1's off of one album, Part of Me will not be considered as a song from Teenage Dream since it's a track from the re-release, Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, so MJ and Katy will stay tied for all eternity. Or until someone else breaks the record. I think it'll take a while though. In case you haven't heard the track yet, take a listen below and follow along with the words. It's a pretty good song.

DARREN HAYES LOVES TO DO MADONNA COVERS!!

Aussie singer and former Savage Garden singer Darren Hayes came out a few years ago, and I have a feeling his young gay years were spent much like mine...LISTENING TO MADONNA!! He has since done several covers of Madonna classics and, since it's Madonna Friday and all, I'm going to share them with you all. Because I love you like that. Darren's voice is pretty amazy, so it lays on these songs like a...well....prayer, for lack of a better word. I think you'll agree. And if you don't, well, you'll more than likely feel bad about yourself all day and fall into a depression so deep that you'll never come out of it. Or something like that. I'm vamping. Here we go with Ray of Light, Dress You Up, Angel and Like a Prayer. He is pretty great on every single one, I must say. Listen and love, people.

MADONNA FRIDAY: BUENOS AIRES

Yep, Madonna was the perfect star for the movie musical Evita. I mean, c'mon! She IS Evita. A girl who had to find the right guy to put her on top, but once she got there, she made everyone fall in love with her. The rest is history. Very smart casting, and, it turns out, Madonna's finest movie moments to date. She went on to win the Golden Globe for Best Actress/Musical, Comedy. Buenos Aires is my fave song from Evita, and the most exciting number I think. The fun fact behind this scene: You can see in some parts, mostly the beginning and end, that Madonna is her usual sleek, fit self. The dance scene, however, had to be rushed into production because Madonna was pregnant and began to show. You can really see that baby bump, a.k.a. Lourdes, in the dance number. Ha. She nailed it anyway. Nicely done, Madge. What a pro! The song was never released as a single from the film's soundtrack, but it was released as a promo only single for all to enjoy. The songs from Evita that were released included the original song written by Andrew Lloyd Webber to accompany the film, You Must Love Me, which went on to win the Oscar for Best Original Song (#18 US, #10 UK), Don't Cry for Me Argentina (#8 US, #3 UK) and Another Suitcase in Another Hall (#7 UK release only).

MADONNA EXTENDS HER HOT 100 RECORD. GIVE ME ALL YOUR LUVIN' IS HER 38TH TOP 10 HIT

Madonna has done it again!!! Her latest single, Give Me All Your Luvin', from her upcoming MDNA album, bounds from 13 to 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it her 38th appearance in the top tier of the chart. This puts Madonna, already the artist with the most top 10 hits in chart history, even further ahead of the runner up, The Beatles, who have charted 34. GMAYL also goes from 7 to 6 on the Digital Sales chart. Of course, Madge's first top 10 appearance was back in 1984 when Borderline hit #10. Wow, 28 years later and you're still making the hits. A true legend. Congrats and LONG LIVE THE QUEEN. Here is the complete list of the artists with the most top 10 hits in Billboard's 5- year history.

FLASHBACK: THE #1 SONG 26 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS...

...How Will I Know by Whitney Houston. The single was the third off of her smash debut album Whitney Houston, and her second #1 single after Saving All My Love For You. The bright, spunky video won Whitney an MTV awards for Best Female Video in 1986.

WHITNEY HOUSTON'S ALBUMS STORM THE BILLBOARD 200 AFTER HER DEATH

Whitney Houston's untimely death has resulted in an enormous jump in sales for her back catalogue. According to Billboard, the singer sees six previous title enter the Billboard 200 album chart, the highest being her Greatest Hits package, which enters at #6 this week with 64,000 copies sold. The other titles include her debut album Whitney Houston (#72), The Bodyguard Soundtrack (#80), I Look to You (#118), Whitney (#122) and the soundtrack to The Preacher's Wife (#183). The total of all albums sold since her death are 101,000, up from 2,000 from the previous week. Houston also moved 887,000 downloads in singles this week. It's expected that Whitney's albums will sell even more next week when the full week of sales will be eligible for chart ranking. Obviously a lot of fans are rediscovering Whitney's amazing voice. Hopefully she is somewhere seeing how missed she is and how much we all loved her gift.

AMAZING MASHUP OF WHITNEY HOUSTON AN ROBYN

This is spectacular. Listen to this mashup of Whitney's How Will I Know and Robyn's Dancing On My Own by Zooash called Dancing in Houston. It's absolutely amazing! Who would have thought that the Houston classic would lay over Robyn's heartbreaking dance floor jam so perfectly. It does. Check it out. It gives HWIK a darker, moodier vibe.

ADELE LOOKING STUNNING IN VOGUE

Fresh off her complete domination of the Grammy awards, Adele is now on the cover of Vogue magazine looking a true winner. The young British songbird gives a captivating interview in the pages of the fashion mag talking about everything. Despite her somewhat demure acceptance speeches at the Grammys, Adele is not a wilting flower. "I am quite loud and bolshie,” she says (British slang for unruly and clamorous). I’m a big personality. I walk into a room, big and tall and loud," she tells the mag. She address her throat problems (a busted blood vessel on her vocal cord) and how she won't be writing another breakup record. She seems so down to earth and funny in this interview. You can see the entire photo set and read the interview HERE. It's gorgeous! Here is Adele's performance if Rolling in the Deep from Grammy night. The girl killed it. Enjoy. It's also been announced that Adele's next single will be Rumour Has It which will hit radio in March.

BONNIE RAITT SCHOOLS ALICIA KEYS DURING ETTA JAMES TRIBUTE

Bonnie Raitt proved at the Grammys last night that she has one of the most enduring and impressive voices in blues, pop or any other genre. In a tribute the legendary Etta James, Raitt sang with Keys on Sunday Kind of Love and made Keys look like a straining newbie by comparison. After Alicia's questionable-at-best intro, Raitt opened up her glorious trap and KILLED it!! There was no question who wowed that crowd. Bonnie Raitt is the real deal, y'all. Watch her effortless, glorious performance below.I wanna see her sing with Adele!!

REMEMBERING WHITNEY HOUSTON

Just a few tracks to remember Whitney Houston. From the time she hit the scene in 1985 that voice was undeniable. From dance to soul to rock and roll, Whitney had the pipes for all of it. With over 170 million records sold worldwide and the biggest selling soundtrack in history with The Bodyguard, Houston is one of the biggest selling, most beloved artists of all time. Here are a few highlights from her career, starting with her first single You Give Good Love and ending with her stunning rendition of The Star Spangled Banner. I can't believe that she's gone. We will always love you, Whitney Houston.

WHITNEY HOUSTON HAS DIED AT 48

Whitney Houston, probably the greatest voice in pop music history, has died at 48.  Her publicist, Kristen Foster, has released a statement confirming the singer's passing, but no cause of death has been stated. The last few years of Whitney's life had begun to turn around with a successful album and a stint in rehab after her years of drug abuse and a rocky marriage to Bobby Brown. Ms. Houston will forever be remembered for her golden voice and the many, many hits she graced us with over the years. She leaves behind her daughter, Bobbi Kristina, from her marriage to Brown. Such a sad, sad ending to a life lived in the spotlight. She will be missed. R.I.P. Whitney.

NO NEED TO WORRY, ADELE'S STILL GOT THAT VOICE

Adele recently had to have surgery for some throat problems. AAAAAHHHHHH!!! What if that glorious voice was hurt. Guess what! It wasn't!! Here is the proof. Adele sings her massive hit Rolling in the Deep for Anderson Cooper on a segment of 60 minutes. The girl's still got it.

ALL RIGHT, GLORIA ESTEFAN. YOU GOT ME WITH THIS ONE: HOTEL NACIONAL

Cuban diva Gloria Estefan is not always my favorite. While I think she has written some A-MAH-ZING songs in her career, that voice sometimes gives me the vapors. But, I gotta hand to Gloria with this one. The new video for her #1 Billboard Latin, Tropical AND Dance Club song, Hotel Nacional, has got it all...inexplicably. Gloria has managed to combine Rocky Horror, big band, French cabaret, drag queens and Susan Lucci in a wonderful mess of fabulous! Good times, Gloria. The song is pretty damn catchy too. Watch and judge for yourself. I must say, Gloria has never looked better. Go.

MADONNA FRIDAY: WHAT IT FEELS LIKE FOR A GIRL

Madonna is a tough chick. What It Feels Like for a Girl is a sweet song. The video for the song is anything but sweet. The third single from Madonna's #1 album, Music, is one of the highlights of the disc. It reached #23 on the Hot 100 in the Spring of 2001. The song itself finds Madonna talking to her fella about how the world is different and if he wondered what it feels like for a girl...... in this world. Starting off with a sample from the movie The Cement Garden, the song rolls along at a lilting pace, drawing you in seductively to every line. BUT when Madonna was ready to make a video, she took that girl power and amped it up to 11 by using a pulsing, mostly instrumental version of the song and, with then-husband Guy Richie, producing a video with such violent images it was banned from MTV. Now this was controversial because overt sexuality and male violence was never a problem for MTV before, but to see a woman tazer a man or run into a car or light a gas station on fire... well that was too hot for tv! Ha. The video is amazy, to say the least, and I love the old woman who plays her grandmother that she rescues form the "Ol Kuntz Guest Home" (hilarious) in her car with the plates that say "PUSSY" AND "CAT". I truly think this video is one of the best ever made. Take a look at Madonna's What It Feels Like for a Girl. [image]
