BOOK OF MORMON MAKES CHART HISTORY

Aside from winning a butt-load of Tony Awards this week, Book of Mormon, from the creators of South Park, has now made Billboard chart history. The soundtrack to the mega-hit musical leaps up the charts, selling 61,000 this week, to #3 on the Hot 100. This is the first time in 32 years that a Broadway cast album has cracked the Top 10 on that chart! The last cast album to do so was Hair in 1969, and it spent 13 weeks at #1. Wow. 61,000 also makes it the most albums sold in a week for an cast album since Neilson SoundScan began tracking in 1991. The prior record was 52,000 set in 1992 by the original cast recording of the London cast of Phantom of the Opera. Book of Mormon, with music and lyrics by "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and "Avenue Q" co-writer Robert Lopez, opened on March 24 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. If you can get a ticket, go see it! [source]
