Friday the 13th! It has a stigma. A "PR problem", if you will. How did this happen? Where did it come from? The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskevidekatriaphobia (WTF?) a word derived from a bunch of Greek words meaning Friday, Thirteen and Phobia......well that makes sense. Apparently sometime in the 19th century the biography of this dude Giochino Rossini contained this passage, "[Rossini] was surrounded to the last by admiring and affectionate friends; and if it be true that, like so many other Italians, he regarded Friday as an unlucky day, and thirteen as an unlucky number, it is remarkable that on Friday, the 13th of November, he died." And so starts the whoopla. According to the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute (what?) an estimated 17 to 21 million (stupid) people in the United States alone are affected by a (baseless) fear of this day. About $800 to $900 million is lost in business on this day. [source] CRAZINESS!!!!! Of course, we all know it spawned the movie franchise, which is enough to make it scary I guess.
