Raspberry Beret was the first single off of Prince & the Revolution's album Around the World in a Day. The track noted a shift in the style of Prince's music, coming after the massive success of the album and movie Purple Rain, Prince, with the help and influence of Wendy & Lisa, moved in a much more psychodelic and orchestrated direction. The song was released about the same time as the album, with no promotion. Prince wanted to give his fans a special surprise, so Around the World in a Day simply showed up at record stores upon it's release. Yea, Prince!!!
