FLASHBACK: THE #1 SONG 25 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS...

..True Colors by Cyndi Lauper. Lauper had exploded onto the scene in 1983 with her debut album, She's So Unusual, and changed people's perception, along with Madonna, of women in pop music. SOOOO her follow up album and it's first single needed to make a big impression, and did it ever. A classic not just for Cyndi, but for all of pop music, True Colors has stood the test of time to become one of the most covered, beloved songs in American pop music history. The song hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on October 25, 1986 and stayed there for two weeks. It has since become an anthem of sorts for the LGBT community and Cyndi used it's name for her True Colors Tour that she embarked on in 2007 that supported the Human Rights Campaign and the Matthew Shepard Foundation, among other charities involving the gay community. There is no denying the power of the song and it's emotional delivery by Cyndi. It's a winner. Enjoy the beauty that is True Colors. Hug someone today.
