Sting (Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) was, of course, the lead singer of the pioneering new wave band The Police. The Police had a fairly short but hugely successful career, spanning five albums and several classic singles. After the band disbanded, Sting took his sexy ass solo in 1985 with his debut solo album The Dream of the Blue Turtles (#3 UK, #2 US) and hit the top 10 with If You Love Somebody Set Them Free and Fortress Around Your Heart. That was just the start as Sting's solo career soon overtook any success The Police had on the pop charts. Subsequent albums like Nothing Like The Sun, The Soul Cages, Ten Summoner's Tales, Mercury Falling and Brand New Day kept him on the charts all over the world. FLASHBACK: MY MUSIC IN 1985: NOVEMBER 10th

IT'S A TIE!!! What? How does that even work? Ha. Well, my 1985 self apparently could not make a decision on the #1 song for this week, girl. It was just too hard. I had pants to pinch-roll and hair to tease. Anyhoo, this week sees a lot of new songs jumping onto the top 30 in my world, including the delicious Sting and the amazy Simple Minds. Sheila E. has, with the inclusion of Holly Rock, three songs in the top 30. HUMPDAY SEXY SONG: BE STILL MY BEATING HEART - STING

I mean, has there ever been a sexier male pop star than Sting? Arguably yes.......but no. He can STILL get it and he's 62! SEE!! Anyhoozers, back in 1987 Sting was killing it on the Hot 100 and Be Still My Beating Heart was his sixth solo top 40 song and the second sexy single, after We'll Be Together, from his second solo multi-platinum album ....Nothing Like The Sun. (yes, the dots were part of the title. I'm not being dramaculous) The song is sexy and sensual and Sting's face is begging to be kissed (and possibly knelt over) in this video. Those lips!!! Those eyes!!! That voice!!! It's hard to beat Sting. So today, light a candle, grab a bottle glass of chardonnay, sit in the tub and listen to the smooth sounds of Sting's Be Still My Beating Heart. At last night's Almay Concert to Celebrate the Rainforest Fund's 21st Birthday at Carnegie Hall, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Sting, Deborah Harry, Bruce Springsteen and Shirley Bassey sang a cover of Journey's Don't Stop Believin'. Seeing is believing!!

LADY GAGA JOINS STING'S RAIN FOREST FUND CONCERT

Sting and his wife Trudy Styler have worked tirelessly for years to protect and preserve our rainforests and this year they are drawing some big names to their concert benefit. Sting will perform along with Elton John, Dame Shirley Bassey and the amazy Lady Gaga. Can't wait to see what kind of crazy outfit Gaga will come up with for a rainforest benefit!! The bi-annual event will take place at Carnagie Hall on May 13th. Styler points out that one of the cool things about the event is that artists that you wouldn't expect collaborate together quite often. Styler said, "one of the things about this night. The audience comes expecting to see unusual combinations of singers. Because I've never recorded it, everyone let's their hair down. We raise a good amount of money for what I consider to be an incredibly important cause, but they have one heck of a night." RECORD IT! [source][image]

STING IS NOT A FAN OF SINGING COMPETITION SHOWS

Sting went OFF on some of the most successful shows on television recently. The former Police frontman is not having any of this "televised karaoke" and says it's filled with talentless wannabes. He says, "I am sorry but none of those kids are going to go anywhere, and I say that sadly. They are humiliated when they get sent off. How appalling for a young person to feel that rejection. It is a soap opera which has nothing to do with music. In fact, it has put music back decades. Television is very cynical." Right, because when you walk into a record label there's NEVER any rejection!!! You are treated with only respect. NOT! He even goes off on the judges of the X Factor saying,"The X Factor is a preposterous show and you have judges who have no recognisable talent apart from self-promotion, advising them what to wear and how to look. It is appalling." WOW! Somebody woke up on the wrong side of his record sales this morning. Obviously there are some untalented people involved with these shows, but there are also your Leona Lewises and Kelly Clarksons who go on to great success. So maybe Sting is just sucking on some bitter pills. He's still hot though.[source]
