THE #1 SONG 40 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS....
....The Way We Were, by the one and only Barbra Streisand. The song was, of course, from the Robert Redford/Barbra Streisand movie of the same name and was written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman and Marvin Hamlisch. The Way We Were reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 on February 2, 1974, stayed for one week, was replaced by Love's Theme by Love Unlimited Orchestra and then returned to #1 for an additional two weeks on February 16th. WERQ! Never give up, Babs!!! The record also went on to win a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Original Song for it's composers. Not too shabby. The song has been covered a number of times, but everyone seems to be completely out of f*cks to give for other versions because Babs stuck a fork in the shit and said "IT'S DONE!". So sit back, grab a glass of chardonnay and someone to cuddle with and take in the easy-listening classic, The Way We Were.
