MADONNA'S MOST ICONIC MTV VMA PERFORMANCES

The "M" in MTV might as well stand for Madonna, by most people's standars. Madonna was a pioneer of the modern music video as we know it and has continued to forge new ground with each and every era of her career. So it stands to reason that some of Madonna's most iconic and memorable television performances have been opening the MTV awards. I'm sure they're ALWAYS happy to have her. From the very first performance of Like a Virgin on the very first MTV VMAs in 1984 to the return of Like a Virgin for MTV 20th anniversary show, Madonna has turned it out like nobody's business. Expect to see some more of the Queen in years to come. Madonna!

MADONNA MOVIE SONGS: PART III - THE 00s

Madonna didn't contribute too many songs to films in the first decade of the new millinium, but the ones she did were significant. From the film The Next Best Thing, her movie with Rupert Everett, Madonna covered the Don McLean classic American Pie. Everett convinced Madonna to record the song for the film and appears in the video for the cut. Though the song was not released commercially in the US, it did reach #29 on the Billboard Hot 100 on the strength of radio airplay alone. Die Another Day was a massive hit in the fall of 2002 (Madonna's 20th anniversary in the recording business) for the Bond film of the same name. Madonna appears briefly in the film and made one of her most stylish videos for the song. The song spent 11 weeks at #1 on the Sales Singles Chart, the longest run for any Madonna song to date. It was the biggest Bond hit since Duran Duran's 1985 A View to a Kill. Nice. Okay, watch these and marvel at her wonder. More to come!!!

MADONNA MOVIE SONGS: PART II - THE 90s

The 90s kept the hits rolling from movie soundtracks for Madonna. The film A League of Their Own featured This Used to Be My Playground during it's end credits and perfectly matched the tone of the movie about female frienship and power. I'll Remember was written for Madonna good friend and the director of her documentary Truth or Dare, Alek Keshishian for his major motion picture directorial debut With Honors. Finally, Madonna did the first of her two spy themes for the spoof Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and was on the radio non-stop in 1999 with Beautiful Stranger. Whatcha' think about that?

MADONNA MOVIE SONGS: PART I - THE 80s

Madonna is no stranger to the movie soundtrack. Some of her biggest, most recognizable hits came from the big screen. Here are three from the 80s. Madonna appeared in the film Vision Quest as a nightclub singer and belted out the hit Crazy for You. Live to Tell, which later appeard on her True Blue album, was actually from the film At Close Range starring Sean Penn. Madonna wrote it as a birthday present for her then-husband to use for the film. Who's That Girl was, of course, from Madonna's film of the same name. Suck on these!

TAYLOR SWIFT NOT DOING THE LES MIZ MOVIE AFTER ALL

Taylor Swift, the eternally-surprised country starlet, was widely believed to be the choice for pivotal role of Eponine in the Toby Hooper movie production of Les Miserables, but turns out, she AIN'T! Producer Cameron Mackintosh announced the cast today and the role is being played by British actress Samantha Barks. Barks has a musical background, currently starring in the stage production of Oliver! and having actually played Eponine in the 25th anniversary concert of Les Miz. I gotta say, this is a great thing. No offense to Taylor, and Imma let her finish, but Samantha is a much more appropriate choice. Of course, the teenage girl in me still wants to see Lea Michele (over)act Eponine on the big screen, but Taylor was not doing it for me, so Barks will do. Check out the clip below of her belting out On My Own, the iconic Eponine number from Les Miz. Pretty impressive, y'all. Oh, and below that is the performance from the concert at the Hollywood Bowl in 2008 of Lea Michele. You be the judge. (but really I am, and I say Lea.)
