MADONNA FRIDAY: THE #1 SONG 14 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS........

.......Music!! Madonna scored her 12th #1 single with the euro-tastic beats of Music. The first single from the album of the same name, Music was produced by French producer/songwriter Mirwais Ahmadzai, who has continued to work with Madonna to this day. From the opening line of "hey, Mr. DJ. Put a record on. I wanna dance with my baby" it was clear that we were not going to hear a retread of Ray of Light. This album is edgier and darker and had a very European, electro-disco feel. Music hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 16, 2000 and remained for four consecutive weeks. It was praised by critics and fans alike as a return to simple, straightforward dance music of Madonna's early days, like Holiday and Into the Groove. The video was directed by Jonas Akerlund and featured a five-month pregnant Madonna along with besties Niki Harris and Debi Mazar and the fresh-faced comedian Sasha Baron Cohen, who was not well known in the US yet. Anyway, this song definitely changed the pop landscape upon its release and showed all the little girls riding her coattails who was still boss. Madonna. Here's Music. It really does make the people come together. Happy Madonna Friday!!

THE #1 SONG 13 YEARS AGO TODAY WAS.....

....Music by Madonna. Madonna was high on her upward career momentum from Ray of Light when she
released follow up album and single Music in 2000. Released in late August 2000, the song was a return to old school, dance Madonna and was embraced by fans (re: gays) immediately and raced up the charts, becoming her 12th #1 song and a staple of her concert performances ever since. Music also reached #1 in 25 countries total. So there. In the video Madonna and close friends Niki Harris and Debi Mazar are rolling in a limo driven by Ali G. (Sacha Baron Cohen) on their way to a strip club and drinking champagne. There is an animated section of the song that was added because Madonna was several months pregnant with her second child, Rocco, at the time and couldn't do any stunts. Of course, there was controversy surrounding the use of strippers and porn stars, but Madonna was just proving a point by doing what the boys were doing in their videos, so suck it! Music spent four weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and infinity in my heart and bootie. Enjoy the early 2000's with Madonna and make the people come together.

MADONNA FRIDAY: MUSIC

Music makes the people come together, and no one knows that better than the Queen of music, Madonna. On August 21, 2ooo Madonna released a song that took us all back to the time she was all about shakin' the boot-ay!!! Music was the first single from the album of the same name. The song was an immediate, worldwide hit and made Madonna one of the few artists to have #1 hits in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. It was her 12th #1 in the US. The video features a VERY pregnant Madonna (disguised in a big coat most of the video, she was pregnant with Rocco) and her two gal pals, Niki Harris and Debi Mazar, riding around to hot spots in a limo driven by Ali G. (Sasha Baron Cohen). Because Madonna was in a family way (and keepin' her baby) an animated action sequence was put in the video. There are also A LOT of strippers and a license plate that says "MUFF DADDY". Brills!!!! Anyhoo, enjoy Music by Madonna. [picture source]
